Position Overview


Primary Purpose of Position
This position will manage the Bachelor of Social Work ( BSW) Field Education program-a joint program between North Carolina A & T State University and the University of North Carolina Greensboro. The NCAT Co-Director of Field Education will work collaboratively with the UNCG Co-Director of Field Education and BSW faculty.

The Co-Director of Field Education, BSW Program, is responsible for leading and managing all educational and administrative functions of the field education program in compliance with CSWE accreditation standards, including coordinating BSW program field education placements, and any extended summer BSW placements; developing, securing, and retaining undergraduate level social work field education placements; managing university and agency internship agreements required for student internships; field education program, and participating in all aspects of the CSWE accreditation process regarding the BSW field education program. Other responsibilities include recruiting Field Advisory Committee members and collaborating with the Field Advisory Committee, providing orientation and training to students, field instructors, and faculty liaisons; recruiting, mentoring, and supporting faculty liaisons; managing the processes and procedures for professional liability insurance and for field related grievances; using, maintaining, and ensuring student, field instructor, and field faculty access to the BSW field education database; updating field education policies and procedures, the BSW field education manual, and other field education documents; representing the BSW program at regional meetings with local Field Education Directors; managing student prerequisites for BSW field placements; planning and assigning student placements; assigning faculty and students to field courses; monitoring BSW field placement sites to ensure quality placements for BSW students; troubleshooting field education and placement challenges; co-chairing BSW field education faculty meetings; and organizing and implementing the BSW Agency Fair.
In addition to the educational and administrative responsibilities in the BSW Field Education Program, the Field Education Director will teach two courses per semester in the BSW program, serve as an undergraduate student academic advisor, and engage in service to the BSW program, the department, the college, the university, and the profession.
This is a twelve-month position.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences ( HCHHS) comprises six departments and the School of Nursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degree programs; Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Services Management, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degree programs including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (PA program), Master of Social Work ( MSW), Master of Science in Health Psychology and PhD in Social Work, PhD in Applied Psychology, and Doctor of Nurse Practice ( DNP). The HCHHS is also home to the Center of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research ( CIHDER), a hub for multidisciplinary research and community engagement efforts to alleviate health inequities. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhance the mentoring of trainees, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.
The Department of Social Work and Sociology is a supportive community of committed faculty, staff and experienced sociology and social work practitioners who prepare students to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Degree options include: the Bachelor of Sociology, the Bachelor of Social Work, a Joint Master of Social Work and Joint PhD in Social Work (offered with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro). The Bachelor of Social Work ( BSW) Program has been continuously accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1974. We are committed to excellence in education by preparing our students to face complex social problems with knowledge of evidenced based practice and creative solutions. We have approximately 105 sociology students, 280 BSW students, 85 MSW students and 32 PhD students.
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited graduate social work program and at least two years of post-master's social work degree practice experience in social work.
One year experience in managing or coordinating field practicums for social work internship program(s).
One year experience in supervising and advising social work interns.
One year experience in working with diverse student populations.
One year experience teaching in a CSWE accredited program
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
One year experience managing and/or coordinating BSW field placements.
One year experience in developing field education curricula and seminars.
One year experience teaching in an undergraduate CSWE accredited program.
One year experience advising undergraduate students.
Recent experience with CSWE accreditation requirements.
Required License or Certification
Clinical Social Work License
