In this dynamic role, you'll assist the Public Relations Manager/Public Information Officer (PIO) by developing impactful content, managing media relations, and driving our communications strategies forward.

What You'll Do:

  • Write and edit press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and more.
  • Serve as Deputy PIO, supporting incident communications and crisis response.
  • Manage media inquiries, schedule interviews, and build press relationships.
  • Create and monitor content across social platforms, tracking analytics to measure success.
  • Collaborate on exciting events with the Strategic Events Team to boost visibility.
  • Develop internal communications to keep our community informed and inspired.
  • Track media coverage and report key insights to senior leadership.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in communications, PR, or social media.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with AP style knowledge.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Familiarity with media tools, design software, and web platforms is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Florida's Government-in-the-Sunshine laws is a bonus!

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this role supports communication strategies to elevate the College's reputation. Responsibilities include creating and distributing content across multiple channels, handling media relations, and assisting with campus-wide communications initiatives. The position serves as the primary contact for all public records matters at the College also manages public records requests, ensuring compliance with Florida public records laws, FERPA, and HIPAA, while maintaining confidentiality.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in writing and editing press releases, news articles, newsletters, social media posts, and other communications materials to ensure consistency with the College's messaging.
  • Serve as deputy public information officer, assisting the lead public information officer with incident related information requirements.
  • Coordinate with the PIO to manage media inquiries, arrange interviews, and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Create, schedule, and monitor content for the College's social media accounts, including responding to comments and messages and tracking analytics to measure impact.
  • Assist in planning and executing media events, including press conferences, product launches, and other College events. Collaborate with the Strategic Events Team to ensure effective communication before, during, and after events.
  • Support the development of internal communications materials such as emails, memos, and newsletters to keep faculty, staff, and students informed about College initiatives.
  • Track media coverage and social media performance, preparing regular reports for the PIO and senior leadership that highlight key metrics and insights.
  • Assist the PIO in managing communications during emergencies, including drafting statements, coordinating updates, and monitoring public response. (5
  • Manages and responds to public records requests from the public, media, and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance with Florida public records laws, FERPA, and HIPAA. Safeguards the confidentiality and security of sensitive student and employee information and acts as the primary contact for all public records inquiries for the College
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in communications, public relations, social media, or related areas.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with experience in AP style.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with social media management tools and content creation platforms.
  • Familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and web content management systems is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn Florida's Government-in-the-Sunshine laws.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Bilingual writing and speaking skills (English/Spanish) are required.
  • Professional public interaction experience is required.
  • Familiarity with local and statewide affairs is desireable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
