JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for one tenure-line faculty position focused on Human Centered Artificial Intelligence (HCAI) located in State College, Pennsylvania. The appointment will be at the assistant or associate professor rank and begin in July 2025 at the University Park campus. We are looking for outstanding candidates who can significantly enhance objectives and approaches to HCAI. We seek scholars with demonstrated expertise in specific applications of artificial intelligence (AI) that support human goals, needs, and/or values. Candidates with expertise in designing and developing novel techniques such as human-AI collaboration, human-robot interaction, or generative AI to advance knowledge are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research; teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including residential, online, and/or hybrid courses; supervise and mentor graduate students; actively pursue external funding to support research activities; engage in service activities at the college and university levels; and collaborate with faculty across the university and industry partners. Candidates will possess a PhD in informatics, computer science, cognitive science, or a related discipline before their appointment start dateat Penn State. Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor will demonstrate strong potential for developing an externally funded, collaborative, interdisciplinary research program, and potential to contribute to the college's teaching mission. Candidates seeking the rank of Associate Professor should have a strong record of scholarly achievement, external funding, and demonstrated success in teaching and service.
