Position Highlights

The Sanyal Group, in the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Arizona is looking to hire Research Technicians I.
The primary responsibility of Research Technician I will be participating in field, greenhouse and laboratory research, measuring various soil, crop, and environmental variables. The individual will also participate in outreach activities like presenting research data during meetings or similar events and publishing research and educational manuscripts.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Research duties will include collecting soil, water, and plant biomass samples from the field, process them for analyses, run analyses, procure and organize research data, perform statistical analyses, and write brief study reports.

Duties & Responsibilities

Position Description:

  • Conduct appropriate laboratory and field research for soil health program development and implementation.
  • Conduct and maintain appropriate laboratory and/or field experiments, analyze data statistically, and create reports with charts and graphs of results.
  • Assist in the development of research-related publications and reports.
  • Creatively apply own knowledge, skills, and experience in environmental science to solve problems and deliver solutions for a diverse number of stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement learning objectives, curriculum, and training materials related to soil health, and general soil management for a diverse number of stakeholder groups.
  • Utilize all communication techniques such as mass media, Internet, etc. to disseminate relevant outreach education to clientele.
  • Organize outreach events and speak at meetings and conferences to disseminate research knowledge.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of environmental science principles.
  • Ability to work outside in open fields for extended hours.
  • Ability to drive vehicles to rural and urban field research sites.
  • Ability to learn new skills.
  • Ability to write reports and scientific manuscripts.
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
  • Motivation to work with agricultural stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the UniversityFleet Safety Policyor the ability to acquire one upon hiring.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with environmental science projects.
  • Experience with statistical analyses and software.
  • Experience in organizing complex, large datasets.
  • Demonstrated experience in publishing scholarly articles.
  • Demonstrated experience in speaking at scientific conferences.
  • Experience in working with chemicals, electronic instruments.
