Position Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell (ENMU-Roswell) is seeking a motivated and experienced Director of Clinical Education for the EMS program. The Director of Clinical Education will oversee the clinical education components of the EMS program, ensuring that students receive high-quality, hands-on training in clinical settings. This role is critical in maintaining the program's accreditation standards and fostering strong relationships with clinical partners.
This is a 12-month administrative faculty appointment. This position reports to the EMS Program Director and the Dean of Health Education. The instructor has the responsibility to administer a quality educational program to students in assigned classes. EMS faculty have the day-to-day responsibility for the instruction and coordination of an assigned cohort of students in the EMS education program clinical realm. Instructor must maintain professional skills (Paramedic License, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and necessary instructor credentials) and subject matter expertise through research in discipline, continuing education, and involvement in professional organizations. Instructor will supervise full time and adjunct faculty as assigned. Instructor will manage clinical agency agreements, ensure clinical resources meet or exceed contractual obligations. Instructor will advise EMS clinical students in coordination with the EMS Program Director. The instructor will act as a liaison between the program and clinical internship sites. Instructor will evaluate cognitive, psychomotor, and affective student competencies in the classroom, lab, and clinical setting. Instructor will maintain records consistent with accreditation standards. Instructor will also evaluate the effectiveness of instruction for all classes and in all partnering institutions and sites. Instructor will request changes in curriculum as necessary. Instructor will work with Program Director to process changes via Curriculum Committee. Instructor will ensure continuity of instruction for the EMS Program. Instructor will attend meetings as needed. Some weekends and evening class times are required. Attendance at conferences requiring overnight stay may be required. Instructor will travel to off campus "satellite" and off campus classes on a regular and as needed basis. Instructor will travel to clinical sites and training institutions throughout NM and occasionally out of state with students to fulfill their clinical requirements. It is imperative you have reliable transportation.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee the clinical education experiences for EMS students, including EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and Paramedic programs.
  • Establish and maintain clinical affiliation agreements with hospitals, EMS agencies, and other healthcare facilities.
  • Ensure clinical sites meet accreditation standards and provide a safe, educational environment for students.
  • Schedule and monitor student clinical rotations, ensuring compliance with program requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Travel to clinical sites and training institutions for evaluation, clinical duties, instruction and assisting other instructors on various occasions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the EMS program and clinical sites, facilitating communication and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of clinical sites and preceptors to ensure quality and effectiveness of student learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate clinical experiences with didactic and laboratory instruction.
  • Provide guidance and support to students during their clinical education, addressing any academic or professional concerns.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of student clinical hours, performance evaluations, and competencies.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program review, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of EMS education best practices, accreditation standards, and industry trends.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and other departmental functions as required.
  • Must follow all policies and procedures of ENMU Roswell and the ENMU System.
  • Promote and represent ENMU-Roswell and the EMS Program in a professional manner at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in EMS, education, or related field (must obtain a Bachelor's degree within 4 years from date of hire).
  • Current and valid certification as a Paramedic or higher-level EMS provider.
  • NM Level II Instructor/Coordinator (or the ability to obtain credential within 90 days).
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS Instructor Credentials (or the ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Minimum of 3 years of field experience in emergency medical services.
  • Previous experience in clinical education coordination or a related role in EMS education.
  • Strong understanding of EMS clinical practices, protocols, and accreditation standards.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation as this position requires moderate travel.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with clinical partners and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with clinical tracking software and learning management systems (LMS).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors or Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Advanced certifications such as Critical Care Paramedic (CCP), Tactical Paramedic (TP-C), or EMS Instructor certification.
  • Experience with accreditation processes and standards (e.g., CoAEMSP, CAAHEP).
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations (e.g., National Association of EMS Educators, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians).
  • NAEMT Instructor Credentials in PHTLS, AMLS, GEMS, EPC, TCCC, TECC and EMS Safety.

Working Conditions

Work is generally performed inside a non-smoking facility and select clinical facilities. The physical demands will include lifting, moving, sitting, standing, and walking as needs of the class, lab and clinical settings progress. There will be lifting of equipment and supplies of up to, but not limited to 50 pounds. Instructors routinely assist other instructors from all disciplines of Health Education. Instructors need to be physically able to handle demands such as reaching and lifting with the use of arms, hands and fingers. Instructors must also be able to hear, speak and see due to the nature of the educational system. These are some conditions that instructors may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Instructor will travel to clinical sites and training institutions within NM to evaluate, assist, and strengthen the clinical education process and promote the EMS Program.
