Position Highlights The Cloud Computing Architect is responsible for designing, building, delivering, and maintaining technology solutions in Amazon Web Services (AWS) which enhance operations and learning. This role involves adopting cloud computing technologies, infrastructures and applications to meet the University's requirements, which include migrating on-prem systems to AWS. The position demands expertise in technology strategy, policies, plans, architecture, deployment, and maintenance of the University's applications and systems for security and ongoing end user services. The incumbent will work independently except for new projects and is expected to influence others within and outside the job function regarding policies, standards, and processes. This position will support University of Arizona Global Campus.

Candidates working anywhere in the U.S. may be considered for a remote assignment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Architects, develops, and implements security-focused managed cloud applications, services, and servers in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Participates as a cloud solutions development and implementation subject matter expert (SME) for AWS on various project teams and initiatives and collaborates with other architecture & engineering teams in developing and supporting common infrastructure plans to be employed across enterprise systems.
  • Designs and implements automated processes in AWS.
  • Represents the unit on university committees to initiate change and to resolve issues as a subject expert in AWS.
  • Collaborates with technology vendors and service providers to evaluate products, negotiate contracts, and ensure the successful implementation of solutions that align with organizational goals.
  • Maintains up-to-date AWS documentation, capturing insights and contributing to the knowledge base to facilitate knowledge sharing and transfer across the team.
  • Builds and delivers training.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with management to fully understand policies and procedures to provide guidance to the university.
  • Makes recommendations for improvement to management.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of complex computing management systems including system administration, performance monitoring, problem management, change management, records management, and disaster prevention and recovery.
  • Strong communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis or related field; or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required AND Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.

OR

Equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical experience with Amazon Web Services, including on-prem-to-cloud migration.
  • Experience with Azure
