Job Summary

The Community Engagement department within the College of Arts, Sciences and Education is recruiting School Security Monitors for the FIU All-Stars middle school enrichment program. The security monitor is responsible for monitoring School Board property to maintain a safe and secure learning environment, the prevention of fire, theft, vandalism, and the protection against illegal entry.

Duties include:

  • Follow the principal's direction on how to deal with emergency situations
  • Listen to all radio communications
  • Report to assignment directly after it is given
  • Remain on post at all times except to respond to a necessary call for service
  • Assist the program manager with dismissal procedures, including buses
  • Be cooperative and courteous at all times; be firm when issuing directions or oders that should be followed; be punctual for tour of duty and report wearing the prescribed uniform; be neat and clean and fit for duty
  • Assist in the identification of students in violation of The Code of Student Conduct
  • Follow all instructions issued by the program manager
  • When faced with potentially dangerous situations, request assistance immediately
  • Assist staff, students, and visitors as needed
  • Recognize and report safety hazards, or suspicious activity
  • Report observed violations of School Board rules, violations of law, instances of persons needing medical aid, suspicious persons loitering/trespassing on campus, smoke or fire and any fire exit lighting burned out or vandalized, as well as, report any unsafe conditions observed or brought to their attention.
  • Periodically patrol assigned school areas/grounds
  • Observe departing personnel to guard against theft of School Board property
  • Report property damage and unusual occurences to program manager and check e-mail daily

The School Security Monitor's schedule will reflect the allocation approved. In cases where extenuating circumstances require to work additional hours, approval must be obtained.

High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience.

Must be current Miami-Dade County Public School security officer or school employee.

Work Schedule

M-F- 1:00pm - 6:30pm

Temporary Disclosure
