Research Assistant Professor - Botanical Curator

The Department of Biological Sciences and the Institute of Environment in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education at Florida International University, invite applications for a nine-month, full-time Research Assistant Professor to serve as a Botanical Curator.

Job Summary
- Provides oversight in the daily operations of the Wertheim Conservatory and Research greenhouses (WC), as well as long-term planning for maintenance and improvements. Provides oversight in the daily operations of the Herbarium at the International Center for Tropical Botany at The Kampong (ICTB).
- Works on collection development in consultation with faculty, cooperates in research and teaching activities of the Department of Biological Sciences and the International Center for Tropical Botany, and may be assigned to teach courses in Botany or related topics.
- Leads in the conception, development, and implementation of living collections at the WC and the ICTB, as well as associated interpretive and marketing materials.
- Leads in the organization and maintenance of herbarium collections at the ICTB, including database activities.

- Supervises and mentors undergraduate and graduate assistants in the WC greenhouse with curation of living collections at WC and ICTB, as well as the ICTB Herbarium curation
- Participates in the efforts to promote and build the WC and ICTB collection and acquisitions funds.
- Serves as a PI and co-PI on external funding proposals related to research, training and infrastructure in plant sciences, in collaboration with other ICTB faculty.
- Performs scholarly research on the collections at WC and ICTB. Publishes research, presents academic papers, delivers public lectures and/or provides tours.
- Maintains and develops educational displays at WC and ICTB. Arranges and coordinates visiting groups to have tours of WC and ICTB. Updates and maintains available self-guided tour materials for visitors to use during hours the Conservatory is open to the public.

- Takes an active role in the operations and maintenance of the facilities at WC and ICTB.
- Designs and implements strategies for the preventive maintenance of the facilities at WC and ICTB.
- Shares technical and practical knowledge with researchers (faculty and students) for the implementation of research projects in the facilities at WC and ICTB.
- Represents the WC and the ICTB in the broader community and collaborates with internal and external partners that share aspects of the conservatory's mission related to arts and culture.
- Maintains contact with the public and donors, when necessary.
- Interprets the WC operation administrative rules and policies and recommends new and improved programs to effectively manage the conservatory operations.

- Tracks and coordinates the use of the facilities by researchers and those teaching courses and explore funding opportunities and work on grant applications to funding agencies for both educational and research activities and the improvement of the WC and ICTB facilities.
- Performs essential duties in emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification from a department administrator.
- Serves as the University's credit card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University's credit card policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chairperson or ICTB Director. The omission of specific duties does not.

The minimum qualification for this position is a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field.
