Position Summary
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice awards undergraduate degrees in criminal justice to residential and distance students, and maintains an online emergency management B.S. degree program. The department, housing one of the University's largest majors, is a progressive, theoretically oriented program. Western Carolina University is one of the 16 state supported institutions in North Carolina and is located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.

The Emergency and Disaster Management Program within the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice is seeking two faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track), beginning August 1, 2025. These are nine-month positions with summer teaching possibilities and are for our residential program with some likely online teaching responsibilities. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
The Emergency and Disaster Management Program has an established record of engaging students through undergraduate research and experiential learning and is consistently ranked as one of the best undergraduate programs in the nation. The ideal candidate will have an interest in contributing to these efforts and have a firm foundation to teach a range of emergency and disaster management courses.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Emergency Management, Criminology/Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Health, Urban Planning, or other discipline closely related to the field of Emergency & Disaster Management. Highly qualified ABD candidates will be considered if degree is completed by December 2024.
Candidates must have a clearly articulated research agenda in Emergency & Disaster Management, experience and/or graduate coursework related to Emergency & Disaster Management, and a commitment of academic excellence and collegiality.
