The Opportunity

Inter-Con is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel - Litigation to join its growing Legal Department. This is a hands-on role for an employment litigator who is ready to take meaningful ownership of cases and files directly on behalf of Inter-Con. For attorneys coming from private practice, the position offers a more sustainable in-house work model centered on business outcomes rather than billable-hour targets-without stepping away from substantive litigation.

The Senior Counsel will independently manage matters from strategy through resolution, work directly with business leaders, and handle significant litigation work that might otherwise be sent to outside counsel.

The ideal candidate has substantial employment litigation experience, sound business judgment, and the confidence to manage cases with limited oversight.

Primary Responsibilities

Senior Counsel will exercise independent judgment and take significant ownership of pre-litigation, administrative, and litigation matters, including:

• Independently manage employment litigation, administrative claims, regulatory inquiries and audits, internal investigations, wage claims, and related disputes from inception through resolution.
• Develop and execute litigation strategies aligned with the company's business priorities and risk-management objectives.
• Lead law-and-motion and discovery work, including drafting motions, briefs, pleadings, and correspondence; managing document collection and ESI; and propounding and responding to discovery.
• Prepare for, take, and defend depositions; lead mediations and arbitrations.
• Evaluate claims, recommend resolution strategies, and negotiate settlements when appropriate.
• Provide practical, proactive advice to internal stakeholders on litigation risk, dispute resolution, and compliance.
• Handle significant litigation work in-house and coordinate with outside counsel when matters require external support.
• Support traditional labor matters, including grievance review and strategy, and apply transferable employment litigation skills to this area.
• Maintain direct, trusted relationships with internal clients and communicate case status, strategy, and risk clearly to Legal and business leadership.
• Monitor legal developments affecting the organization and recommend improvements to policies, training, documentation, and processes.
• Provide guidance to less-experienced attorneys or legal staff and contribute to other Legal Department initiatives as needed.

This position is hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week at Inter-Con's corporate headquarters in Pasadena. In-office expectations may change based on business needs.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the California Bar.
• At least seven years of relevant litigation experience, with substantial experience handling employment matters.
• Demonstrated ability to manage cases and files independently, including discovery, motion practice, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial preparation.
• First- or second-chair trial experience and meaningful arbitration or hearing experience.
• Direct client-contact experience and the ability to advise stakeholders and manage matters with limited leadership or partner oversight.
• Traditional labor experience is strongly preferred but not required for an otherwise qualified employment litigator.
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, negotiation, and oral communication skills.
• Strong business judgment and a practical, solutions-oriented approach to high-stakes matters.
• Initiative, leadership, professionalism, sound judgment, and integrity.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, and LexisNexis; experience with SharePoint, Salesforce, Legal Files, Paycom, or ADP is helpful.
