Position Description
Please note: this position requires on site part time work in Germantown, WI during the school semester and offers full time in the summer. This is NOT a winter break or summer only internship.

Allient Milwaukee builds TCI branded product and is a dynamic, growing Milwaukee area manufacturer of industry leading products for AC and DC drives.

The person selected will aid in the creation and documentation of manufacturing procedures and equipment controls for Allient Milwaukee's flagship active and passive harmonic filter product lines. This individual will work hands-on in Programable Logic Controller and embedded C firmware development environments to assist in the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and testing of the company's automated test fixtures, internal utility applications, and test databases. This position will directly support the manufacturing floor and work directly on text fixture hardware. This opportunity will allow the person selected to gain valuable professional experience within an industry-leading company and contribute to Allient Milwaukee's business success.

Job Responsibilities
Job responsibilities will be partially driven by qualifications and area of interest expressed by the individual but typical tasks will include:
  • Development, testing, and documentation of PLC based automated testing systems.
  • Creating assembly documentation including but not limited to manufacturing procedures, calibration procedures, configuration and setup procedures, debugging guides, and system documentation (schematics/bill of materials).
  • Development, testing, and documentation of internal desktop utilities that interface to the companies ERP systema and related databases.
  • Assembly of prototype products on the shop floor and working with the construction of prototype circuits and test fixtures as needed by the engineering team.
  • Controlling processes to improve the consistency and quality of products.
  • Observing product assembly and implementing process improvements to reduce time and labor. Ability to think of and design fixtures and tools to improve operations on the shop floor.
  • Working with engineers to improve manufacturability of new and existing products.
  • Exposure to all or some of the following tools and technologies: PLCs using structured text or ladder logic implementations, embedded processors, C programming language firmware, C# desktop development, SQL databases, Epicor (ERP), project documentation WIKIs, production test equipment, power conversion and power quality products.
  • Any other duty as assigned.

Required Competencies
Industrial controls knowledge in PLC based automated test systems using structured text or ladder logic programming or C programming for embedded processors

Basic programming skills in a higher level language like C# for desktop development for internal utilities and basic SQL query language.
Desire to work on the factory floor with manufacturing associates solving problems, providing controls efficiency and usability updates, and improving assembly documentation.
The ability and willingness to take independent action and complete job tasks. Also, the willingness to seek out additional assignments. The desire to take full ownership of all assigned tasks and complete them in an efficient, timely manner.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Desired Competencies
Basic electrical circuit knowledge, power electronics designs, power magnetics and filter design. Experience with LS Electric PLCs. Experience with DSPs and microcontrollers.

Experience of industrial field buses such as IOLink, Modbus TCP and RTU, ODVA Ethernet/IP.
Knowledge of 3D modeling and CAD tools.
Knowledge of assembly level hand tools for controls hardware builds and wiring, hands on experience assembling products. Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning tool use for item creation, bill of material creation, and engineering change documentation.

Experience with version control systems and software issue trackers.

Basic Qualifications for Consideration
Previous work in a manufacturing environment. Current accredited college or university enrollment making progress towards an undergraduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
