Fire Protection Engineer

Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring a Fire Protection Engineer to join our dynamic Fire Protection & Life Safety team. This position reports to the Engineering Team Leader and is responsible for designing and engineering fire suppression systems and/or fire alarm systems for various complex facilities such as commercial high rise, mission critical data centers and high-reliability infrastructure.

What You Will Do:

• Develop fire suppression system layouts
• Perform hydraulic calculations
• Develop fire alarm system drawings
• Prepare construction documents
• Coordinate designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural teams
• Use Revit and other related design tools
• Review codes and standards
• Support permitting and construction phases
• Collaborate with project managers and clients to ensure compliant, efficient, and resilient fire protection solutions.
• Participate in site visits, field verifications, and quality assurance reviews to support successful project delivery.

What You Will Bring:

• Must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related field and 5 or more years related experience, including fire protection systems design and product design for complex buildings such as mission-critical data center environments.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Fire Protection Discipline.
• Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, IBC, local fire codes) and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in Revit used for creating detailed fire protection drawings and models.
• Understanding of engineering principles relevant to fire suppression, fire detection, alarm, and control systems.
• Experience with fire alarm, mass notification, fire suppression, fire pump, hydraulic calculation, special suppression, smoke control/exhaust, and fire-resistance rated construction.
• Experience with smoke control rational analysis, CONTAM or CFD modeling, or other modeling software.
• Experience designing fire protection systems for mission-critical facilities such as data centers, hospitals, or industrial plants is highly beneficial.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and communicate design intent clearly in written and verbal form.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in an on-site environment.
• Able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community.
• Mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
• Willing to travel to project sites or offices, as needed.
