Juvenile Detention Officer

As a Juvenile Detention Officer in Columbia, SC, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Government, and more. As an Access Control Officer at a government juvenile services location, you will manage entry points, screen visitors and property, monitor activity, and maintain a professional presence that helps deter incidents. This driving post requires a valid driver's license. You will provide exceptional customer service and clear communication while supporting a caring, reliable team that acts with integrity and delivers through teamwork.

Pay Rate: $17.00 / Hour

Job Schedule:

What You'll Do:

Provide customer service to staff, visitors, contractors, and youth-related program personnel while carrying out site-specific access-control procedures and security-related policies.
• Monitor entry and exit points, verify identification and authorization, maintain visitor logs, and direct individuals according to established facility procedures.
• Screen personnel, visitors, and permitted property in accordance with post orders and applicable government facility requirements.
• Respond to incidents, access concerns, and critical situations in a calm, professional, problem-solving manner; notify appropriate site contacts and emergency responders as needed.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of assigned access points, surrounding areas, and perimeter locations, reporting unusual activity, damaged equipment, or policy concerns.

Minimum Requirements:

• A valid driver's license is required in the state where the job is located.
• Must meet DPSS/DHS requirements, including a tuberculosis test and MMR vaccinations.
• At least six months of security-related experience is required.
• Comfortable using a computer or tablet is preferred.
• X-ray screening experience is preferred.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
