The Department of History is one of the largest academic departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department is committed to the purposes of a research university, to the teaching of history at the undergraduate level as a core discipline in a liberal arts education, and to the training of graduate students.

Primary duties: Faculty member will be responsible for teaching a 2:2 load while achieving scholarly excellence in their own research, participating in departmental service, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The Department of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the history of science and technology. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate students at both the introductory level as well as upper-level courses in areas of scholarly focus. Scholars who work on any chronological period and geographical specialization are invited to apply.

Applicants must have PhD in hand in the field of history or a closely related field by July 1, 2027. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in History or related field and evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarship. Teaching load of two courses per semester; salary competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The appointment begins July 1, 2027. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check.
