UCI - Tenure-Track Assistant or Tenured Associate Professor Faculty Position, Health Policy

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine), Joe C. Wen School of Population and Public Health, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty position in health policy within the Department of Health, Society, and Behavior (DHSB). We invite applications at the Assistant or Associate level in health policy with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

We seek a scholar with strong training in health policy or a closely related field whose research examines how policies, institutions, social conditions, and behavioral and economic processes shape health or health care. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: health policy; health care delivery systems and organizations; health services research; health economics, insurance, and financing; health care access, quality, and outcomes; the health effects of social policy and social determinants of health; and health equity and disparities.

The successful candidate is expected to have a theoretically grounded and methodologically rigorous research program that advances the field of health policy and contributes to the broader research mission of the Department of Health, Society, and Behavior. We welcome a range of methodological approaches, including quantitative and qualitative methods, mixed methods, policy analysis, health economics, longitudinal and population-based approaches, and research that integrates multiple levels of analysis. We are particularly interested in scholars whose work connects health policy with the social determinants of health, health disparities, health behaviors, or interventions at the population level.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research with strong potential for extramural funding; teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and help shape and expand the area of health policy within the Joe C. Wen School of Population and Public Health through leadership and service.

This is a state-funded, 9-month position. The current teaching load in the Department of Health, Society, and Behavior is two 4-credit courses per academic year, including at least one core undergraduate course in public health or health care policy and one graduate course. Graduate teaching will contribute to the MPH Health Systems and Policy concentration, which covers health politics, health care payment and delivery, health policy analysis, health economics, and evaluation, with an emphasis on evidence-based approaches to improving health care and public health systems; and the PhD program in Health, Society, and Behavior, which examines the social, structural, and behavioral determinants of health and health inequities through basic, applied, and community-engaged research.

The successful candidate will be part of the Joe C. Wen School of Population and Public Health and will have opportunities to collaborate across the university and with researchers in public health, medicine, nursing, biological sciences, social sciences, and related fields and centers. The department values collaborative and interdisciplinary scholarship and seeks scholars whose research will contribute to understanding how health policies and social contexts influence health and health equity.

Qualifications include a strong record of research accomplishments including publications, and experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate or graduate students, commensurate with the proposed rank. Candidates are also welcome to explain how they have contributed to inclusive excellence in their teaching, research, and service. All applicants must have a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DrPH, ScD, or equivalent) in health policy, public health, economics, public policy, sociology, political science, or a related field by the time of appointment.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in health policy, public health, economics, public policy, sociology, political science, or a related field by the time of appointment. Candidates who have not yet completed the doctoral degree at the time of application must provide evidence that the degree will be completed before the position's anticipated start date.
