BID ANNOUNCEMENT ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN V CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION (CDA) GIS & UTILITIES SECTION Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $75,336; Grade B-14 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on Friday, September 4, 2026. This position is open to all current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Under direction, participates in a variety of specialized and/or complex para-professional engineering projects or acts as a working supervisor in an assigned area of responsibility, and performs related duties as required. This class is the advanced level in the Engineering Technician series. Positions in the class series are allocated across various City departments in support of engineering work which may include but are not limited to projects involving the design, maintenance and construction of water mains or sewers, roads, bridges, street maintenance, traffic engineering and/or traffic control ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Ensure that CDA infrastructure assets are identified, inventoried, and tagged consistently and correctly, GIS database records representing infrastructure assets accurately reflect field conditions, and the operating conditions of infrastructure assets are recorded and regularly evaluated for asset performance over time * Work with contractor staff engaged in construction and commissioning of new infrastructure assets, or decommissioning of existing infrastructure assets * Navigate all areas of Airport property to locate and collect or confirm data pertaining to specific infrastructure assets * Identify infrastructure assets by visual inspection or interpretation of technical software files, drawings, manuals, specifications, and other materials * Affix and remove asset tags or direct others to affix and remove asset tags * Coordinate with airport staff and contractors responsible for asset commissioning, decommissioning, assessment, operation, and maintenance * Articulate infrastructure asset tagging goals and requirements and redirect CDA or contractor staff when goals and requirements are not being met, potentially including conflict resolution. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Four (4) years of paraprofessional engineering experience Should the above criteria not be fulfilled, the following options are acceptable: * Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree, plus two (2) years of paraprofessional engineering work experience * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher, plus one (1) year of paraprofessional engineering work experience Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications * A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required NOTE: You must provide your transcripts or diploma at time of processing, if applicable. NOTE: You must provide your valid US driver's license at the time of processing, if applicable. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Some positions may require moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs) * Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time * Ability to move one's hands and arms to grasp or manipulate objects SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires an applicant to successfully complete an interview.
