Description

PURPOSE

The IT Asset Management Intern will support ibml's technology lifecycle management initiatives by assisting with the identification, collection, sanitization, and preparation of retired computer equipment for recycling or disposal. This role will work closely with the Information Technology team to ensure that decommissioned laptops, desktops, servers, and other technology assets are securely wiped and processed according to company policies and security standards.

The intern will gain hands-on experience with IT operations, hardware inventory management, data security practices, and enterprise technology environments.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Assist with collecting and organizing retired IT equipment from various departments
  • Perform secure data wiping and sanitization of laptops, desktops, and other technology assets using approved tools and procedures
  • Verify successful completion of data destruction processes and maintain related documentation
  • Update asset inventory records to reflect equipment disposition and lifecycle status
  • Label, sort, and prepare equipment for recycling, disposal, or redeployment
  • Assist with hardware inspections to identify reusable components and devices
  • Support inventory audits and asset tracking activities
  • Follow company security, compliance, and environmental disposal procedures
  • Maintain accurate logs, spreadsheets, and reports related to asset management activities
  • Assist the IT team with miscellaneous infrastructure and technology projects as needed



REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS



  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow documented procedures and maintain accurate records
  • Basic understanding of computer systems and hardware components
  • Comfortable handling and moving heavy computer equipment safely
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn new technologies and processes
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet applications preferred
  • Familiarity with PC hardware, operating systems, or IT asset management concepts is a plus

This internship provides hands-on experience in enterprise IT operations, asset lifecycle management, hardware support, and data security practices within a global manufacturing company. Interns will gain practical exposure to industry-standard data sanitization procedures, inventory management processes, and technology infrastructure while working alongside experienced IT professionals. The role offers valuable insight into how organizations securely manage and retire technology assets throughout their lifecycle.
