Overview
The Application Architect owns the design of the application layer above the data architecture-specifically how ServiceNow, the case management user interface, and adjudicator-facing tools integrate with the underlying signal ingestion and scoring layers. This role bridges the Chief Data Architect's schema and data flow designs with the ServiceNow Developers' build and configuration work, ensuring the overall solution is cohesive, scalable, secure, and usable for operational/adjudicator workflows. This position is remote but will require travel in the DMV area.
What you will do
- Own and evolve the end-to-end application architecture for the case management and adjudication experience, built on/around the ServiceNow platform.
- Design how ServiceNow integrates with signal, scoring, and analytics layers (events, entity resolution outputs, risk scores, and decision-support artifacts).
- Translate data architecture (schemas, canonical models, and data contracts) into application patterns that developers can implement cleanly.
- Define API and integration patterns: service boundaries, interface contracts, error handling, idempotency, versioning, and performance considerations.
- Architect integration approaches using API gateway patterns and/or enterprise integration patterns (e.g., ESB-style orchestration where required).
- Guide the implementation team on ServiceNow platform architecture best practices (scalability, maintainability, upgrade-safe customization, and platform guardrails).
- Ensure application designs support operational reality: adjudicator task flows, case queues, auditability, explainability/traceability of scores, and human-in-the-loop decisions.
- Partner with UX and stakeholders to apply strong judgment to workflow UX for adjudicator-facing tools (clarity, efficiency, and reduction of cognitive load).
- Participate in architecture reviews and support delivery with design artifacts, reference implementations, and technical governance.
What you need to have
- Clearance: Must maintain an active Top Secret security clearance
- Bachelor's Degree and 10 to 12 years of experience; Master's Degree and 8 to 10 years of experience; PhD and 5 to 7 years of experience (in lieu of Bachelor's degree, 6 additional years of relevant experience)
- 7+ years of experience in application architecture, including designing complex, integrated enterprise applications
- Demonstrated ServiceNow platform architecture experience (beyond development/configuration)-including patterns for extensibility, integrations, and governance
- Strong API and integration design experience (REST patterns, event-driven patterns, data contracts, integration reliability)
- Experience bridging data architecture and application implementation (working closely with data architects and developers to convert models into usable application interfaces)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to align developers, architects, and stakeholders on design decisions and tradeoffs
- Practical UX judgment for operational tools (adjudicator-facing / case management environments), focusing on usability, auditability, and throughput
- Travel will be required (in the DMV area)
What we'd like you to have
Tools & Technical Environment (Preferred/Used)
- ServiceNow architecture tooling and platform capabilities (platform architecture guidance, integration patterns, and platform governance).
- API gateway design and implementation patterns.
- ServiceNow IntegrationHub (or equivalent integration tooling) and enterprise service bus (ESB) patterns where appropriate.
Key Behavioral Competencies
- End-to-end ownership: drives coherent application architecture across multiple components and teams.
- Systems thinking connects user workflows, data contracts, and integration mechanics into a durable design.
- Pragmatic decision-making: balances speed, maintainability, platform constraints, and user experience.
- Collaboration: effectively bridges the Chief Data Architect and ServiceNow development teams to avoid design gaps and rework.
Pay transparency
