(Hybrid) Educator Preparation Coordinator - School of Education and Counseling

West Virginia University's School of Education and Counseling invites applications for the (Hybrid) Educator Preparation Coordinator role in its Office of Educator Preparation Partnerships & Services (OEPPS).

About the Opportunity

The Educator Preparation Coordinator provides support and leadership to teacher education programs in the School and across the University through-certification policies and procedures, professional development for teacher candidates and mentor teachers, engagement and outreach with partner schools and districts, supervision and support of teacher candidates, and communication and data processes. This role provides service to all teacher education programs across the University, though with a particular focus on the Elementary Education BA program in the School of Education and Counseling. This hybrid role includes regular time in partner schools alongside on-campus and remote work.

What You'll Do

Certification Coordination

• Serve as the primary point of contact for certification-related inquiries and forms related to post-graduation/program completion licensure
• Provide information to students, faculty, staff, and relevant stakeholders across educator preparation programs on topics related to certification and licensure requirements and procedures.
• Process and verify certification applications, transcripts, and supporting documentation for in- and out-of-state licensure.
• Develop and maintain certification tracking systems for all teacher candidates and graduates, monitoring progress toward licensure eligibility.
• Advise students on alternative certification pathways.
• Serve as a liaison to the West Virginia Department of Education on certification policy.

Career and Professional Development

• Organize career readiness, professional development, and networking programming for teacher candidates across all educator preparation programs, in coordination with the Office of Student Success in the College of Applied Human Sciences and other faculty and staff in OEPPS and the School o Education and Counseling
• Support data collection, tracking, and outreach to track completer employment outcomes
• Support and/or lead data collection and discussion with school and district partners (mentor teachers and administrators) on program feedback, candidate feedback, mentor teacher evaluation, and needs assessments from mentor teachers and school/district administrators to inform program improvement, accreditation, and outreach programming
• Collaborate with other OEPPS and School of Education and Counseling faculty and staff to develop resources, workshops, and/or other supports for mentor teacher development, including opportunities for credit-bearing experiences and/or microcredentials.

School Partnerships and Clinical Supervision

• Serve as a WVU liaison to multiple assigned partner elementary schools, maintaining regular visits and on-site presence.
• Supervise teacher candidates placed as assigned schools, conducting observations and providing feedback (as appropriate, virtual observations may be possible)
• Build and sustain relationships with school principals, mentor teachers, and district personnel to monitor teacher candidate progress, to gather feedback on candidates and the program, and to identify needs
• Support teacher candidate development, responding to issues and challenges as needed.
• Coordinate with faculty, staff, and school/district partners to identify opportunities for collaboration and development

Communications, Data, and Professional Engagement

• Contribute content and stories on educator preparation programs and initiatives, in collaboration with College communications staff
• Support data collection, analysis, and visualization around educator preparation outcomes (e.g., licensure exams, candidate progressions, clinical experience outcomes, career outcomes), sharing with faculty, staff, and school/district partners as appropriate
• Develop and maintain resources related to certification and professional development on School and College websites
• Represent WVU at state and regional meetings related to educator preparation and teacher development

Other Duties as Assigned

• Bachelor's degree required, with preference for degree(s) focused on education, teacher education, or a related field.
• A minimum of three (3) years of work experience as a teacher and/or administrator in public schools; preference for experience in elementary schools.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to collaborate and work productively with faculty, staff, students, and PK-12 educators and administrators.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft applications and University supported software systems (Banner, Degree Works, Navigate, etc.)
• Ability to work with confidential information and comply with all FERPA regulations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interpret academic, licensure, and accreditation policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree, with preference for degree(s) focused on education, teacher education, or a related field.
• Prior experience with teacher education curriculum, college/university teaching (or leading professional development for teachers), and/or mentoring or supervision of teacher candidates.
