Job Title: Intercompany Accounting Consultant
Location:Remote (must be able to work East Coast hours)
Duration: 4-5 month contract, with potential for extension
Pay Rate: $75-$85/hour

Position Overview
Our client, a global organization, is seeking an experienced Intercompany Accounting Consultant to support a critical accounting clean-up and process improvement initiative. This is a hands-on consulting assignment focused on investigating and resolving complex intercompany accounting issues across global entities.

The ideal candidate will bring a forensic accounting mindset and be comfortable digging into historical transactions, identifying the root causes of reconciliation and consolidation issues, and developing sustainable solutions. This individual will help the organization understand why certain balances are not reconciling, why consolidation processes are not working as intended, and why plugging entries have historically been required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed review and reconciliation of intercompany balances across global entities.
  • Investigate aged differences, unmatched transactions, historical reconciling items, and unexplained balances.
  • Perform root-cause analysis to understand why intercompany accounts and consolidations are not reconciling appropriately.
  • Analyze historical journal entries and plugging entries to determine underlying accounting or process issues.
  • Prepare and post adjusting journal entries as necessary.
  • Assist with intercompany settlements, confirmations, and account certification activities.
  • Partner with Accounting, Tax, Treasury, FP&A, and regional finance teams to validate balances and supporting documentation.
  • Support month-end close and consolidation activities related to intercompany accounting.
  • Develop standardized reconciliation templates and supporting schedules.
  • Document existing workflows and accounting processes, identify control or process gaps, and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare audit-ready documentation supporting intercompany balances and transactions.
  • Help establish more sustainable processes and controls to reduce future reconciliation and consolidation issues.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a complex or multinational organization.
  • Strong hands-on experience with intercompany accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and consolidations.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate complex or historical accounting issues and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Strong understanding of journal entries, general ledger accounting, month-end close, and U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience cleaning up aged or unreconciled balance sheet accounts strongly preferred.
  • Experience documenting accounting workflows, processes, and controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, or similar.
  • Ability to work independently and navigate situations where historical accounting documentation may be incomplete.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA preferred but not required.

Ideal Profile
This assignment is best suited for a hands-on, investigative accountant rather than someone whose experience is limited to processing routine intercompany activity. The successful consultant will be comfortable working through messy historical accounting data, tracing transactions across entities, challenging existing processes, and determining the underlying reasons balances and consolidations are not working as expected.
