Summary:

Responsible for improving, implementing, maintaining and evaluating the Safety and Environmental Programs at Ellwood Engineered Castings. This position is exempt salary position with primary reporting to the Human Resource Manager and will also work with the Operations teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Lead the SIF program that focuses on identifying and investigating any incident that had the potential to result in a fatality, life-altering injury, or significant environmental impact.
  • Conducts required safety training and education programs and is able to demonstrate proper use of safety equipment.
  • Provide new-employee safety orientations and employee equipment training, as necessary, and maintains appropriate documentation of training.
  • Work with department supervision to conduct incident investigations in a thorough and timely manner to determine root cause and prevention.
  • Conduct frequent plant safety/housekeeping inspections and observe workers for safe and unsafe behaviors.
  • Develop, maintain and report on key safety performance indicators.
  • Schedule and coordinate required monitoring and sampling pursuant to facility industrial hygiene/environmental factors (air quality, noise, etc.)
  • Coordinates Contractor Safety Program prior to on-site projects. Audits contract workers to ensure adherence to Company standards.
  • Help develop and maintain the Company's written safety programs, documentation and records.
  • Maintains OSHA 300 Log in accordance with the standard.
  • Assist in the effective management of all Workers Compensation Claims in an effective and compliant manner.
  • Facilitates regular safety meetings and provides guidance on all safety concerns.
  • Lead and help develop the Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and Safe Start programs that is a proactive workplace safety approach that involves observing employee behaviors, providing feedback, and offering positive reinforcement to encourage safe actions and prevent accidents and injuries.



Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:



  • B.S. degree, in Safety or related field preferred, but will consider strong safety employment history (3-5 years) in an industrial/heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint; and internet software programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Results oriented with a strong desire to succeed.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Safety and/or Environmental exposure preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Flexible working schedule, when necessary. Traveling maybe required
