GIS Specialist IV Cherokee United Services is seeking a GIS Specialist IV in Lafayette, Louisiana. This role develops and maintains ArcGIS Online web maps and applications, manages geospatial data systems and workflows, and performs coastal wetland raster analysis to support restoration, conservation, and natural resource decision-making across the Gulf Coast region. Compensation & Benefits: Estimated Starting Salary Range for GIS Specialist IV: $56,000 Pay commensurate with experience. - Develop, organize, update, and maintain geospatial web maps, layers, data sources, items, applications, and interfaces within ArcGIS Online (AGOL).
- Configure AGOL content using required naming conventions, tags, categories, groups, metadata, user-access settings, themes, layouts, and visual standards.
- Coordinate with scientists, managers, cooperators, and end users to identify GIS requirements, test products, and implement effective geospatial solutions.
- Prepare maps and web applications for technical review, publication, and distribution, including completion of required metadata.
- Create, organize, and maintain geospatial project-data repositories in SharePoint, AGOL, and other designated content locations.
- Develop and maintain ArcGIS for SharePoint connections, Microsoft Forms, Lists, Power Automate flows, Power BI reports, and other Microsoft 365 applications that collect, manage, or display geospatial information.
- Build, document, and maintain GIS toolboxes, models, scripts, and automated workflows that improve geospatial processing and data-management efficiency.
- Develop and maintain standardized ArcGIS Pro layouts, symbology groups, color schemes, and cartographic templates.
- Create and update standard operating procedures for existing and new GIS workflows.
- Support data-repository transitions, data cleanup, organization, storage reduction, and proper data-management practices.
- Apply consistent file naming, document titles, numbering, metadata, and data-organization standards.
- Conduct land-water (LW) raster classification analyses for coastal restoration projects and produce associated land-water tables and digital deliverables.
- Conduct or support Wetland Value Assessment (WVA) analyses, including habitat, vegetation, CRMS, land-water change, and shoreline-change components.
- Conduct National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) and Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring Program (BICM) raster classification analyses and prepare final digital products and required tables.
- Compile, create, edit, merge, and update project boundaries, spatial datasets, databases, vector data, raster data, and geodatabases.
- Produce maps, geospatial factsheets, presentations, and hard-copy products when requested.
- Attend meetings, respond to emails, and maintain effective coordination with project stakeholders.
- Submit monthly activity summaries and biweekly validated time-and-attendance reports.
- Identify and promptly communicate software, hardware, system, or technical issues that could affect task completion.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
GIS Specialist IV Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Bachelor's degree in geography, geosciences, remote sensing, civil engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field required.
- Seven to 10 years of experience in geospatial analysis, GIS, remote sensing, surveying, cartography, photogrammetry, or a related discipline required.
- Demonstrated experience with ESRI ArcGIS Online (AGOL), including web maps, hosted layers, applications, and content management.
- Demonstrated proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Pro geoprocessing tools.
- Experience working with vector, raster, and geodatabase files.
- Experience conducting raster classification and geospatial analysis, preferably involving wetlands, coastal habitats, land-water change, or restoration projects.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 applications, including SharePoint, Forms, Lists, Power Automate, Power BI, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to develop or maintain GIS automation tools, models, scripts, and repeatable workflows.
- Knowledge of cartography, coordinate systems, spatial projections, geospatial metadata, data standards, and visual design principles.
- Ability to create clear, accurate, user-focused GIS products, maps, visualizations, and data summaries.
- Strong data-management skills, including repository organization, naming conventions, documentation, data cleanup, and storage optimization.
- Ability to work independently, apply critical thinking, solve technical problems, and deliver accurate work on schedule.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with scientists, managers, partners, and end users.
- Ability to successfully complete a federal background investigation and obtain and maintain required USAccess credentials.
- Position is primarily on-site in Lafayette, LA. Telework may be approved only for specific situations.
- Periodic travel may be required when requested, approved, and funded.
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
