THE POSITION

As an Environmental Group Manager with the Department of Environmental Protection, you will oversee challenging and rewarding work that supports Pennsylvania's abandoned mine land program. This job blends engineering, geology, permitting, and project direction to improve public safety and natural landscapes. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position manages mine fire, subsidence, permitting, and professional services activities that support the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation. It requires leadership, technical review, coordination with partners, and oversight of complex reclamation projects. As an Environmental Group Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Project Oversight: Supervise investigation, design, and environmental assessments for mine fire and subsidence reclamation projects
  • Technical Review: Evaluate engineering and geology work products and coordinate release of technical data to staff and partners
  • Contract Management: Prepare and manage professional service agreements and review consultant work for statewide reclamation needs
  • Permitting Guidance: Oversee permitting requirements, interpret regulations, and coordinate reviews with agencies and stakeholders
  • Equipment Coordination: Manage purchase, organization, and maintenance of section field equipment and geotechnical tools
  • Supervisory Leadership: Review staff performance, recommend training, and participate in hiring decisions and administrative tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; and five years of professional environmental protection experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
