At McGraw Hill we create best-in-class, next-generation learning platforms that are used by millions of students and educators worldwide from kindergarten through graduate school. Our goal is to accelerate student success through intuitive and effective learning tools and content that maximize a teacher's time and a student's learning experience. We do all of this in a supportive, collaborative environment where you can grow your career in a way that fits into your life.

How can you make an impact?

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytically driven FP&A Manager-Technology to join our dynamic finance team. In this high-visibility role, you will serve as the dedicated financial partner to our Product Development & Engineering leadership, translating complex financial data into actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of FP&A - Technology, you will play a critical role in budgeting, forecasting, performance analysis, and capital investment evaluation - helping the business scale efficiently and invest wisely.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead financial planning and forecasting by managing the annual budgeting process with Engineering leadership, creating and maintaining rolling forecasts based on business trends, software development, labor allocation, and expected performance, and analyzing actual results versus budget/forecast with clear variance explanations and actionable recommendations.
  • Prepare financial reporting and business analysis by developing monthly and quarterly financial packages for senior leadership, including software development KPIs, operating expense (OPEX) and capital expense (CAPEX) trend analysis, executive commentary, and providing timely ad hoc financial analysis to support emerging business needs.
  • Serve as a strategic finance business partner by acting as a trusted advisor to Product Development and Engineering leaders, translating financial data into clear insights for non-financial audiences, proactively identifying cost optimization opportunities and risks, and building strong cross-functional relationships across Finance, Engineering, and Product Development.
  • Manage CAPEX planning and governance by supporting the annual CAPEX budget, maintaining CAPEX forecasts with Engineering and Product teams, monitoring spending against budget, reporting variances, preparing CAPEX reports for senior management, and partnering with Accounting to ensure proper asset capitalization and depreciation in accordance with GAAP.
  • Drive Jira governance and operational excellence by defining and enforcing Jira configuration standards (including project templates, workflows, issue types, fields, and permission schemes) and promoting Jira best practices through documentation, training, and user enablement programs.
  • Improve financial processes and reporting efficiency by automating recurring reports using existing technology, identifying and implementing scalable process improvements to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of FP&A planning and reporting, and maintaining comprehensive, up-to-date documentation of FP&A processes and procedures.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressive FP&A experience, including at least 3 years supporting a software development organization, with demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and financial reporting and analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (including complex formulas, pivot tables, and macros), experience with ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite), and proficiency with financial reporting and analysis tools.
  • Experience with software development tools (such as Apptio, Jira, and Confluence), familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau or Power BI), and a strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
  • MBA, CPA, CFA, Agile, or other relevant professional certifications, along with strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving, ambiguous environment, with a demonstrated aptitude for continuous learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, interpretation, and delivering sound business solutions.
