Professional Academic Advisor and Student Success Coach II


Position Summary
The Professional Academic Advisor and Student Success Coach II provides advanced, holistic, and learning-centered academic advising and success coaching for students from enrollment through graduation. This position manages a defined caseload of students, including targeted populations requiring specialized support, and delivers proactive, data-informed interventions designed to promote persistence, retention, timely degree completion, and career readiness.
Grounded in NACADA Core Competencies and aligned with the University's commitment to student success, the Advisor II serves as a strategic partner in helping students navigate their academic journey through individualized advising, success coaching, resource referrals, and academic planning.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive academic advising and success coaching to an assigned student caseload.
  • Assist students in developing academic, personal, and career goals that support degree completion.
  • Monitor student progress and utilize data-informed strategies to identify and support at-risk students.
  • Interpret and communicate academic policies, procedures, and degree requirements.
  • Connect students with appropriate campus resources and support services.
  • Conduct proactive outreach and intervention efforts to improve student persistence and retention.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records and advising documentation.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student success initiatives.
  • Participate in advising assessments, program development, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support training, mentoring, and coordination activities for entry-level advisors, as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three -four years of experience in academic advising, student success coaching, or related student support roles.
  • Demonstrated experience advising student populations with specialized support needs.
  • Proficiency with student information systems and advising or case management platforms.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Active involvement in NACADA or similar professional organizations.
  • Experience with early alert, CRM, or retention management systems (e.g., EAB Navigate, Starfish, Anthology).
  • Demonstrated ability to use data analytics to guide advising strategies and interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and confidentiality.
