The Senior Benefits Specialist provides support to the Benefits Team, including alignment with the overall HR and Meijer business strategies that support the day-to-day benefits operations. The Sr. Specialist provides direction and guidance of benefits operations including operational effectiveness, business process review, legal compliance, timely and effective coordination of communications, and continuous process improvements. The Sr. Specialist ensures that processes are efficient and effective to support the ongoing need of the business, and when necessary partner with other areas of the company to offer assistance. This fosters a team environment and a strong service culture that ensures delivery of timely and quality-driven service to internal customers. The Sr. Specialist also manages the day-to-day administrative activities for 2 or more hourly team members.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Accountability or the documentation for all health and welfare programs including plan documents, plan amendments, summary plan descriptions, participant notices, reporting and forms.
  • Support the Benefits Team as the lead for day-to-day benefits operations between internal and external business partners.
  • Implement corporate benefits programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage the resolution for team member and HR Business Partner escalations.
  • Ensure Health and Welfare programs comply with legal/compliance requirements, are administered accurately and efficiently, and are effectively communicated to employees.
  • Operational management to ensure compliance for newly created Federal and State legislature affecting the Health and Welfare programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of the systems administering all Health and Welfare programs, and industry trends and standards.
  • Project management of annual compliance events such as internal and ERISA audits, including fulfilling auditor data requests and coordinating with internal departments and vendors.
  • Project management of the annual Open Enrollment process with the Meijer Rewards (Aon Hewitt) team to ensure an effective process for team members and vendors.
  • Responsibility for content and distribution of all Health Plan documents.
  • Provide annual FSA substantiation and recovery analysis and documentation.
  • Manage the day-to-day administrative activities for 2 or more hourly team members.
  • Relying on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree in HR or Business Management or commensurate experience.
  • 8+ years' experience in HR related work.
  • Experience with legal compliance of Health Benefit programs.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing Section 125 ERISA Health and Welfare benefit programs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute administration of benefit and HR programs.
  • Extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude.
