Job Description

Shift: Monday - Friday, 6am -2:30pm

Compensation Range: $18/h - $19/h+ *dependent on experience* + Quarterly Incentive Bonus + Overtime Opportunities

PURPOSE:

The Quality Inspector - Final Identification (FID) supports PCC Carson City's quality and traceability processes by verifying part identity, markings, certifications, and documentation prior to shipment or movement to the next operation. This role ensures aerospace castings and components are properly identified, traceable, and compliant with customer, engineering, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include interpreting routers and inspection requirements; verifying serialization and part marking; maintaining traceability documentation; and performing dimensional and visual verification activities using precision inspection tools.

This position is structured within PCC's development framework, where inspectors progress through Levels 1-3 based on technical proficiency, inspection capability, and leadership skills. As inspectors advance, they take on increasingly complex inspection setups, advanced dimensional verification responsibilities, and technical support functions.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (ALL LEVELS)

Final Identification & Traceability

  • Verify part identity, serial numbers, lot traceability, and required markings.
  • Ensure compliance with customer and engineering marking requirements.
  • Review routers, certifications, and production documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Verify proper documentation prior to movement to the next operation.

Inspection & Verification

  • Perform visual and dimensional verification activities using precision inspection tools.
  • Interpret technique cards, specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Verify conformity of parts to customer and engineering requirements.

Measurement & Tool Use

  • Use inspection equipment including calipers and other precision tools.
  • Ensure proper handling, protection, and verification of inspection tools and gauges.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency in measurement techniques.

Documentation & Systems

  • Complete records, and documentation accurately.
  • Track production and inspection activity in systems.
  • Maintain traceability and compliance with QCPs and quality requirements.

Part Handling & Workflow

  • Handle and transport parts carefully to prevent damage.
  • Support part flow through inspection processes and maintain production timelines.

Safety

  • Follow all plant and department safety procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas (6S).

General

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department and business objectives.

LEVEL 1 - Quality Inspector - FID

Scope: Entry-level inspector performing basic traceability verification, dimensional inspection, and documentation tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret job routers and basic work instructions.
  • Track production and inspection status in E1 or applicable systems.
  • Verify part marking, lot traceability, and documentation accuracy.
  • Perform basic visual and dimensional inspection using standard tools including calipers
  • Apply basic shop math and print reading skills.
  • Interpret certifications and technique cards at a foundational level.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records.
  • Meet production goals including cycle time expectations.
  • Ensure proper part handling and transport.
  • Maintain work area cleanliness and organization (6S).

LEVEL 2 - Quality Inspector - FID

Scope: Intermediate inspector performing full inspection setups, in-process verification, and advanced traceability activities.

In addition to the skills of a Level 1 Quality Inspector:

Inspection & Measurement

  • Perform inspection tool verification and ensure calibration awareness.

Inspection Setup & Execution

  • Perform full bench setups for inspection activities.
  • Verify compliance of markings, serialization, and documentation to customer specifications.

Quality & Workflow

  • Apply intermediate shop math to support inspection accuracy.
  • Support product flow while ensuring compliance with traceability and quality requirements.
  • Identify and communicate discrepancies or non-conforming conditions.

LEVEL 3 - Quality Inspector - FID

Scope: Advanced inspector performing complex verification activities and serving as a technical resource for quality and traceability processes.

In addition to the skills of a Level 1 & 2 Quality Inspector:

Advanced Inspection & Setup

  • Perform complex part setups and verification of intricate or critical components.
  • Verify machine accuracy and inspection setups.
  • Conduct advanced dimensional verification and benching activities.
  • Interpret complex customer specifications and traceability requirements.

Quality Systems & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with customer-specific, regulatory, and aerospace quality requirements.
  • Serve as SME (Subject Matter Expert) and/or DSQR (Designated Supplier Quality Representative) when applicable.

Leadership & Training

  • Train and mentor Level 1 and Level 2 inspectors.
  • Model positive behaviors and support quality culture initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on inspection techniques, traceability requirements, and best practices.
  • Support audits and customer visits related to identification, traceability, and inspection activities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform inspection tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 35 pounds independently; heavier items require assistance or lifting devices.
  • Ability to use precision tools requiring fine motor skills and attention to detail.
  • Work performed in manufacturing and inspection environments with exposure to noise, dust, and equipment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in manufacturing, quality inspection, or aerospace environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
  • Familiarity with inspection tools and measurement techniques.
  • Knowledge of quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
