Accountant I - Full Time Seasonal - San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is an international, nonprofit conservation organization with two front doors: the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. We integrate wildlife health and care, science, and education to develop sustainable conservation solutions.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Accountant I performs general accounting functions including journal entries, account analysis and reconciliations, periodic reporting, research, and audit schedules. Ensures all financial records are in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Collaborates with internal business partners and Finance team members. This position reports to the Accounting Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Analyzes transactions and reconciles general ledger accounts.
• Prepares journal entries in financial system with high-level accuracy.
• Collaborates with internal business partners and Finance team members.
• Maintains data integrity between financial systems and other connected databases.
• Maintains subledgers and associated supporting documents.
• Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents including bank statements, invoices, and contracts.
• Maintains financial security by following internal controls.

JOB EXPERIENCE

• At least two years of experience in an Accountant role required.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field or equivalent specialized training preferred.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Accounting principles and practices.
• Microsoft Office applications including intermediate-level Excel.
• Automated accounting systems.
• Ability to work independently to prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines.
• Work effectively within teams and with others in a diverse environment/
• Communicate effectively (verbal and written).
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
