Description

Macmillan Publishers is seeking a Senior Director, Procure-to-Pay (P2P) to lead and transform the end-to-end P2P function across the organization. This role has accountability for Corporate Procurement, Accounts Payable, T&E and Corporate Card Management, and Payment Processing.

The Senior Director will assess the current state, define a target operating model, and develop and execute a multi-year P2P transformation roadmap, including the evaluation and potential implementation of a unified P2P platform. The ideal candidate has done this before, thrives in environments where the path isn't yet paved, and brings both the strategic vision and the hands-on expertise to get it done.

What You'll Do:

Strategic Leadership & Transformation

  • Define and drive a multi-year P2P transformation strategy aligned with Macmillan's Finance and enterprise goals
  • Conduct a current-state assessment across all P2P functions and develop a roadmap for process standardization, automation, and technology modernization
  • Lead evaluation and potential implementation of a unified P2P platform (e.g., Coupa, SAP Ariba, Jaggaer, or equivalent) in close partnership with Technology leadership
  • Anticipate business needs and bring forward proactive insights, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee the full P2P lifecycle: corporate sourcing and vendor management, purchase order processing, invoice management, T&E and corporate card programs, and payment execution
  • Establish clear policies, controls, and scalable processes that support growth and ensure compliance
  • Define and monitor KPIs across all P2P functions, measuring efficiency, accuracy, cycle time, and cost performance
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for P2P operational issues, vendor disputes, and policy exceptions

Leadership & Influence

  • Lead, develop, and empower a team of managers and individual contributors across all P2P functions
  • Build accountability and ownership at every level of the team
  • Influence stakeholders across Finance, IT, HR, Legal, and the broader enterprise to drive solutions that scale
  • Act as a thought partner to the SVP, Finance Operations and CFO on P2P strategy and spend management

Team Development

  • Invest in talent development and succession planning across the function
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and career pathways within P2P
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high performance

What You'll Bring:

  • 12+ years of progressive Finance Operations experience with deep expertise across Procurement, Accounts Payable, T&E, and/or Payment Processing
  • Demonstrated experience leading a P2P transformation, from current-state assessment through roadmap development and execution, including technology evaluation and implementation
  • Experience building and structuring a high-performing P2P function, ideally within a mid-to-large media, publishing, or similarly complex environment
  • Strong command of P2P technology platforms (e.g., Coupa, SAP Ariba, Jaggaer, Oracle, or comparable)
  • Proven ability to influence across IT, Legal, HR, and business stakeholders without direct authority
  • High degree of independence and self-direction; comfortable building structure where none exists
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills - equally effective presenting a transformation roadmap to the CFO and coaching a manager through a vendor dispute
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration required

This role will have an annual salary of $155,000 - $180,000.
