JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS The Department of Biology, in the Eberly College of Science, has part-time openings for Research Lab Assistants to work in the Hines research lab within the department this academic year. Duties are to assist in research projects related to bee health. 1 - 30% Bee Rearing Support. This includes maintenance tasks including filling sugar water vials, preparing pollen balls, cleaning and sterilizing sugar-water vials and cages, and taking care of bees. 2 - 60% Assist graduate students in active research projects; mostly including: 1) Bee food preference tests, 2) Assess how bees get infected with virus for research on pathogen and diet interactions, 3) Assess morphological features related to bee health outcomes (bee size, fat content), 4) Field research on bumble bee foraging, 5) Assist with field plantings for pollinators, 6) Literature reading to support research. 3 - 10% Lab support. Includes lab safety checks (waste and eye washes), tending plants in greenhouse, cleaning/autoclaving.
