Symetra is seeking an experienced and peoplefocused Senior Unit Manager to lead a team supporting new business billing activities within our Workforce Benefits organization.

About the role

In this role, you will lead and develop a team responsible for setting up and delivering accurate, timely billing for new Workforce Benefits customers. You'll oversee daily operations, partner across departments, and help prepare the team for future systems and process changes-all while delivering a positive customer experience.

You will play a key role in building team capability, improving operational efficiency, and supporting service excellence during a critical phase of the customer lifecycle.

What You Will Do



  • Lead, coach, and develop a team through regular feedback, performance management, and growth opportunities
  • Set clear performance expectations and ensure accountability for quality, service, and productivity
  • Oversee daily workflows related to new business billing, including data review, system setup, customer communication, and bill validation
  • Ensure work is completed accurately and on time in alignment with service and quality standards
  • Partner with implementation, premium, file feed, and other internal teams to coordinate work and resolve issues
  • Support resolution of customer or partner questions during the billing setup process
  • Identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities; recommend solutions that enhance quality and efficiency
  • Lead training and skill development efforts, including preparation for new systems or operational changes
  • Handle escalated employee, customer, or process related issues as needed
  • Maintain working knowledge of Workforce Benefits products and billing processes
  • Communicate team, department, and company goals to promote alignment and engagement

Compensation

Salary Range: $72,700 - $121,100 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who You Are



  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or people management role
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
  • Clear, professional communication and relationship building skills
  • Experience in employee benefits, insurance, or financial services is a plus-but not required
  • Organized, service oriented, and comfortable managing deadlines
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for training or business needs.


Travel:

Required Training & Professional Development
All newly hired people leaders with direct reports are required to complete a comprehensive leadership development program within their first year. This program includes both virtual and in-person training. The in-person sessions will take place at Symetra's corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. Symetra covers all travel and accommodation expenses.
