The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience. Section II: Summary of Job Function Assumes responsibility for the performance of routine, standardized biological and/or biochemical tests, as well as more complex procedures on blood, urine, tissues, body fluids and other specimens that assist physicians in the diagnosis of clinical management of patients, recognizing results or problems that require referral to Supervisor, Manager and or Pathologist, Performs additional tasks as requested by Chairman of Pathology or his/her designee, Section III: Job Qualifications/Education/Training/Certification/Licensure
Work Environment and Hazards Well- lighted, sometimes poorly ventilated and intermittently noisy environment, Stressful pressure episodes, Sometimes encounters incorrigible physicians and other hospital personnel, Frequently works with infectious biological materials, stains, caustic, toxic and noxious agents, Occasional potential for electrical shock and laceration, Special Physical Demands Must meet requirements of the ADA attached, Moderate amounts of sitting, standing or walking, Occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects weighing up to 20 pounds, Work Contact Group Contact with all sections of the department, other departments within the Medical Center and physicians offices; occasional contact with patients, Job Specific Requirements
Manual, Enters deletes/edits and orders in the Laboratory Information System according to a requisition or verbal request by physician or nursing unit; forwards requisition to front office for billing, Maintains appropriate amount of reagents/supplies by performing scheduled inventory/observing expiration dates; Records lot numbers and expiration dates in designated logs, records data received/placed into use of bottles/boxes/packages, Maintains positive identification of specimen throughout specimen processing and testing; consults with Technical Specialist/Pathologist when unusual requests are received so that appropriate instruction can be obtained, Performs, documents, evaluates required quality control procedures; documents corrective action taken or reason for accepting out of range results; notifies Supervisor, if additional action is needed, Periodically reviews policy/procedure/instrument manuals to ensure compliance; maintains current knowledge of procedures; participates in training/orientation of new employees, Recognizes situations/results that need to be brought to the attention of the Technical Specialist, Pathologist or Administrative Director, Verifies that all writtenbal reports are accurate/logical before release; follows defined protocol for reporting critical values; documents results/phone calls on log sheets, References: Proc, Manual, Section 2: Universal Behavioral Competency Standards Universal Behavioral Competency Standards Customer Service/Patient Satisfaction Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service, Confidentiality Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records, Professionalism Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors, Communication Listens and communicates effectively Teamwork Supports teamwork by cooperative problem solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc, Quality/ Performance Improvement Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functions Autonomy Organizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks guidance as appropriate Accountability Makes decisions that are timely and consistent with department, objectives, policies and procedures, Ownership Demonstrates sound judgment; accepts and benefits from constructive criticism Professional Development Job Awareness Participates in ongoing education as required, Section 3: Unit/ Dept, Specific Competencies Unit/Dept, Specific Competencies Demonstrates proficiency by receiving acceptable performance of internal and external proficiency supplies, Participates in the evaluation and correlation of new procedures and instrumentation; performs/documents maintenance according to schedule defined at each bench assignment; recognizes instrumentation failure and notifies Section Supervisor when additional action is required, Performs routine/complex analytical tests on blood, urine, body fluids and other ordered testing procedure accurately, maintains equipment/instrument and perform minor troubleshooting, as necessary, Recognizes results that need to be brought to the attention of the Section supervisor, Manager and/or Pathologist, ADA Requirements Maximum Lifting and Carrying Tasks Average Range At RWJBarnabas Health, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees physical, emotional, social, and financial health.
