Team Leader, Machine Shop



Precision Fusing and Sensors is actively hiring for a Machine Shop Team Leader in Middletown, CT. This role plays a pivotal part in our Manufacturing Operations, driving performance and quality and applying lean principles for continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading production teams in machine tool manufacturing.



Responsibilities, in addition to performing general machinist duties:



  • Work under the general direction of a Cell Operations Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of employees assigned to a production cell.
  • Plan, lead and supervise assigned functions in Manufacturing Operations Team necessary to manufacture and deliver products in accordance with contractual and other related requirements such as quality, procurement regulations, program requirements, cost control/budgets, engineering change control, environmental compliance and others.
  • In the absence of the Group Leader, perform a wide range of machining operations, operate equipment and oversee product quality and workmanship schedule, assign and monitoring work within the cell to meet program objectives.
  • Responsible for assigned program budgets, costs to complete and compliance with quality systems requirements and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain metrics that track performance to the requirements in quality, schedule, cost and continued application of lean enterprise to make continuous improvements in all areas.
  • Determine needs and provide justification on production tooling upgrades and changes.
  • Plan for manpower needs and fill deficiencies as needed, with consultation with Group Leader.
  • Monitor and analyze production process within Team to ensure work orders are followed properly, takt time is being achieved and required paperwork is completed appropriately.
  • Support the development and control of manufacturing EAC Program budgets.
  • Identify quality issues in production process; assist in the development and implementation of resolution and prevention.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication between functional groups/management to address problems and obtain resolution.
  • Plan and determine manpower requirements based on forecasts.
  • Plan and monitor cost control by scheduling appropriate use of manpower through the balancing of production needs with overtime requirements.
  • Perform Employee Performance Appraisals and provide input for merit increase.
  • Maintain properly cross-trained staff to support production needs in accordance with company policy.
  • Prepare and complete product quotes and estimates to complete requests.
  • Lead and/or participate in process improvement efforts to address or enhance program quality, cost and scheduling.
  • Assure coordination and integration of workflow with continuous improvement through lean activities. Support Company initiatives including ISO 9000 and Statistical Process Control (SPC) ensuring continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and products.
  • Provide quality engineering and manufacturing engineering functions, contractual data requirements list (CDRL) items, periodic customer reviews, engineering change proposals, waivers/deviations, non-conforming material and procurement quality flow-down required to satisfy customer requirements for scheduled shipments.
  • Maintain and monitor visual systems that support the programs, work with support departments to improve Company systems and increase performance.
  • Interview, hire, appraise and develop, if necessary, department personnel in accordance with company policies, federal and state laws.
  • Aid management in establishing and maintaining departmental procedures for compliance with quality standards, company policy and procedures, ISO standards and contract requirements, etc.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.



Qualifications



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in a business or technical field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in machine operation and maintenance, with experience in a supervisory role required



Shift: 1st Shift Monday-Friday 6:30a-3:00p
