Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II in the Department of Medicine with the New Jersey Medical School ( NJMS).

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator this position will oversee the implementation of
Research Protocols and Research Operations at International Sites. The Research projects include examining the role of M. tuberculosis vesicles on TB disease pathogenesis and understanding the mechanism of diversity in transmission of M. tuberculosis clinical strains. The candidate will design and optimize immunological assays in BSL2 and BSL3 facilities. The candidate will analyze data, present the results, communicate with collaborators and contribute to drafting manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. The candidate will identify areas of future research and initiate new projects. The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to multi-disciplinary studies in the field of tuberculosis. In addition to immunology research experience, excellent qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis skills, management and administrative skills, as well as strong writing skills in English are required.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Design, develop and standardize immunological assays to study the role of immune response to tuberculosis, specifically the study of host interaction with clinical strains of Myobacterium tuberculosis.
  • Design, develop and standardize animal experiments to study mycobacterial vesicles and their role in TB pathology.
  • Disseminate data through publications in scientific journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Maintain and develop collaborations with International partners.
  • Organize electronic records, data files and databases related to studies and experiments. Assist in data analysis and presentation of findings at weekly team meetings and at larger meetings with collaborative partners (US and international).

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in a Immunology plus two (2) years of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in TB work.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Hands-on experience with immunological assays.
  • Experience in working with mice in the BSL3 facility.
  • Hand-on experience in working in BSL3 facility.
  • Excellent writing skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Position requires standing to 1/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/2 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time.
