The Maintenance Engineer - Downhole Tools plays a critical role in developing and improving maintenance strategies that support tool reliability, service quality, and operational efficiency. You will work across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to analyze failures, optimize maintenance plans, and support continuous improvement initiatives. By collaborating with engineering, quality, and operations teams, you will help ensure our tools meet the highest standards of performance and safety.

As a Maintenance Engineer - Downhole Tools, you will be responsible for:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain preventative and corrective maintenance plans for downhole tools and support equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting and failure analysis of downhole tools from a reliability and maintenance perspective.
  • Analyze field returns and maintenance data to identify root cause/s, failure trends and reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Define maintenance procedures, work instructions, and inspection criteria.
  • Support root cause analysis investigations and collaborate with other technical personnel to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations teams to improve tool reliability and maintainability.
  • Support tool design reviews by providing maintenance and serviceability feedback as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Baker Hughes quality and HSE standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to reliability, cost reduction, and asset performance.
  • Provide technical guidance to operations, technicians and other maintenance personnel.
To be successful in this role you will:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience supporting maintenance, reliability, or engineering of downhole or electromechanical tools.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies and reliability tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance or reliability data systems.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a manufacturing or service environment.
Desired Characteristics
  • Experience with data analytics, Excel, SAP, MS Office, Outlook, and other database applications.
  • Experience with HPHT or oil and gas downhole tools.
  • Reliability engineering or maintenance certifications.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement training.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience developing maintenance strategies and KPIs.
  • Solid background supporting technicians or field operations.
