POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for safeguarding the organization from internal and external threats and maintaining documented quality and management systems consistent with the requirements of ISO 9001 or equivalent senior management designated systems standards. Develops, implements, and maintains inspection and audit systems necessary to comply with customer product quality requirements. Department managers are responsible for ensuring that quality issues arising from their own activities are managed according to the QMS, customer requirements, non-conformities and the quality policy and procedures, and good management practices. All department managers and/or department responsible employee have the authority to bring about change to the QMS (including corrective actions) in conjunction with Silgan top management and the Quality Manager. Essential Department Manager and/or department designated employee responsibilities: * Takes direction from the Quality Manager for timely and proper utilization of staff and materials in department's activities and achievement of quality objectives, tasks and audits assigned to the department. * Continually maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge and preparedness across the department to create a culture that prioritizes effective QMS. * Review internal QMS procedures and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate. * Reviews non-conformance resulting from daily activities, internal audits, or third-party audits * Communicate employee feedback on any QMS issues to the Quality Manager * Communicate the importance of effective QMS and of conforming to the management system requirements; and achieves its intended outcomes. * Enables its employees and interested parties to become active participants in the management system improvement process * Enable and support the Quality Manager to contribute to the effectiveness and promotion for continual improvement of the QMS FUNCTIONS: The quality Manager is to act as Food Defense & HACCP Coordinator and is responsible for initiating, coordinating and managing all aspects of food safety within the organization. Issues guidelines and directives and ensures compliance. Documents and manages all food safety policies and procedures. Supervises Quality functions personnel daily, in the performance of their duties to include progress/problem reports, determining work priorities, technical guidance, training, employee discipline, etc. Resolves any Q.A. related problems that may occur in an effective and efficient manner, consistent with overall departmental/companyIcustomer quality goals. Responsible for the closure specification program and other systems required ensuring that customer quality requirements are satisfied. Included in this responsibility is ensuring that the processes are maintained, and employees are properly trained and following procedures. Responsible for the internal and external audit and inspection programs. Responsible for corrective action requests. Responsible for training the Quality Associate's in quality program and performing duties while conforming to proper procedures. Responsible for the analysis of returns to include-ensuring reason for return is valid, and the final disposition of the material (reuse, scrap, etc.). Responsible for the maintenance of all documented systems. Issues and/or reviews a variety of reports and maintains appropriate documentation for quality systems. Contacts customers and other departments as problems arise. Responsible for analyzing sites quality performance, provide data and reports for display and communication. Responsible to interpret the data and formulate plans and strategies for improvement and executes these through the quality team and other departments. Chairperson of the Material Review Board. Duties included disposition and analysis of defective product as well as creation and analysis of database. Food Safety Re-certification required bi-annually. May need to travel to customers facility to help resolve any quality or customer related issue. When work in primary classification is not available, may perform other duties according to skill and availability.
