Job Description Summary:Identifies, defines, and maintains business processes and user requirements-leveraging AI tools where appropriate - to support The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's (NASEM) information technology services and tools. Ensures requirements are accurate, complete, and aligned with stakeholder needs. Serves as a liaison between business users and Microsoft 365 (MS365) administrators to optimize platform usage and solutions. As a technical business analyst, acts as a power user of the MS365 platform, supporting business users in identifying and implementing effective solutions.

Applies professional and technical knowledge to perform assignments that are broadly defined and require judgment and creativity. Independently solves a full range of problems requiring the identification and analysis of complex variables. Takes action to solve problems/issues that routinely arise in areas of assigned responsibility but may receive guidance or expertise from higher-level staff on more complex problems. Establishes and maintains processes/procedures to ensure the effective and efficient operation of function. Job Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Develops, socializes, and optimizes the capabilities and advantages of the Microsoft 365 platform to support NASEM's business needs.
  • Analyzes and shapes business requirements by recommending solutions and alternatives; develops and demonstrates solutions where appropriate.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to prioritize requirements and align them with organizational priorities.
  • Translates conceptual user requirements into detailed functional requirements and validates them with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Establishes and enforces governance standards for MS365 solutions, including naming conventions, lifecycle management, security, and compliance.
  • Develops and configures Microsoft 365 and Power Platform solution (e.g., custom Site Templates and structures, workflows using Power Automate) aligned with business needs and governance standards.
  • Ensures solutions comply with organizational security requirements and evaluates risks associated with add-ons or custom features.
  • Defines, coordinates, and validates test cases (including user acceptance testing (UAT)), ensuring solutions meet functional and business requirements; leverages automation tools where appropriate.
  • Documents current and future-state processes, workflows, and system architecture diagram to support implementation, governance, and continuous improvement.
  • Fosters a collaborative team environment and provides guidance and informal mentorship to staff.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, tools, services, and capabilities.
  • Knowledge of MS Power Platform.
  • Familiar with governance solutions such as AvePoint.
  • Knowledge of researching Add-ons and determining any adverse security implications on the environment.
  • Ability of determining the explicit and implicit needs and requirements of various stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly learn the objectives, structures, operations, and policies of a new business area.
  • Strong problem resolution, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and an ability to influence senior leaders and peers.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in a condensed manner to various stakeholders verbally and in writing.
  • Skills in creating documentation such as business case documentation or business requirements summaries.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to learn new skills.

Ability to solve problems of substantial variety and complexity. Ability to undertake tasks broad in nature, requiring ingenuity, and originality. Ability to serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. Ability to operate independently, and exercise significant latitude for independent judgment, discretion, and action. Ability to work successfully in a team environment. Ability to develop relationships with co-workers and employees in other National Academies' departments through effective communication. Good customer service & troubleshooting skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in related field, or equivalent knowledge.

Minimum Experience: Four years of related professional experience.

Physical Capabilities:Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: None.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:Reports to Director. General direction is provided.

Work Environment:Hybrid Office/Telecommute environment, expected onsite percentage 60%, with occasional travel between National Academies' facilities and to off-site meeting/sponsor locations.

Compensation & Benefits

An estimated compensation range for this position is $88,450 - $121,620. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters. Note it is not typical for a candidate to be hired at the higher end of the range. This is a benefits-eligible position.
