Drainage Project Engineer

V3 Companies, a multidisciplinary AEC firm, is seeking a Project Engineer in our Woodridge, IL office, where you will contribute to career-defining projects that reimagine our built and natural world.

We are seeking a motivated Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer with 6-10 years of experience to support transportation infrastructure projects throughout Illinois. The successful candidate will perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, drainage design, floodplain studies, stormwater management design, and permitting for projects involving state highways, tollways, county highways, municipal roadways, bridges, and multimodal transportation facilities. This position will work closely with roadway, structures, traffic, utilities, and environmental teams to deliver transportation projects for agencies including IDOT, the Illinois Tollway, Cook County, DuPage County, Lake County, and local municipalities.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation projects.
• Prepare IDOT Hydraulic Reports, Location Drainage Studies, and drainage technical memorandums.
• Design storm sewer systems, culverts, detention facilities, pumping stations, and roadway drainage improvements.
• Perform floodplain and floodway modeling and analysis.
• Develop drainage calculations and stormwater management reports.
• Coordinate drainage design with roadway, bridge, traffic, utility, and environmental disciplines.
• Prepare Phase I and Phase II drainage deliverables.
• Assist with agency coordination and permitting, including:
  • IDOT
  • Illinois Tollway
  • IDNR-OWR
  • USACE
  • MWRD
  • IEPA
  • County Stormwater Agencies
• Perform QA/QC reviews of drainage studies and construction documents.
• Support proposal development, scope preparation, and client presentations.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians.

Required Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering.
• Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
• 6-10 years of drainage, water resources, or transportation engineering experience.
• Experience with IDOT Phase I and Phase II project development.
• Working knowledge of:
  • IDOT Drainage Manual
  • Illinois Tollway Drainage Design Manual
  • Illinois Tollway Roadway Design Criteria
  • County and municipal stormwater ordinances
• Experience preparing:
  • Hydraulic Reports
  • Location Drainage Studies
  • Drainage Connection Checklists
  • Floodplain permits
  • Drainage permitting packages
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
