Job Title: CNC Machinist

Reports To: Production Manager

PACIFIC PROPELLER INTERNATIONAL (PPI) BACKGROUND

POSITION PURPOSE

Support the overhaul and repair of aircraft propeller systems to airworthiness. This includes evaluation, disassembly, inspection, and test per Manual, Service Bulletin and Directives and other duties in standard time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES

  • Perform advanced machining operations within a precision aerospace manufacturing environment, including both manual and CNC equipment.
  • Independently set up, program (as applicable), and operate CNC and manual lathes and milling machines.
  • Utilize manual machining equipment, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments to produce high-quality components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) where applicable.
  • Accurately measure and verify parts using precision instruments such as outside and inside micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, and depth gauges.
  • Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and machining parameters using mathematical concepts and technical data.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark material to ensure proper alignment and placement of cuts.
  • Align and secure fixtures, tooling, attachments, and workpieces to ensure safe and precise machining operations.
  • Monitor machine performance, including feed rates, speeds, and tooling conditions, making adjustments as necessary to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect, test, and verify completed parts to ensure conformance to engineering specifications and aerospace quality standards.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Identify and troubleshoot machining issues, recommending process improvements when appropriate.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company policies and safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

TYPICAL PROBLEM SOLVING

Utilizes advanced problem-solving skills and sound judgment to interpret and execute complex written and verbal instructions within a precision manufacturing environment. Regularly analyzes and resolves machining challenges involving multiple variables, including tooling, materials, machine performance, and tight aerospace tolerances.

Applies critical thinking to troubleshoot setup issues, identify root causes of non-conformances, and implement effective corrective actions to maintain quality and production efficiency. Prioritizes and manages multiple high-priority tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and adherence to safety and quality standards.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical or vocational training in CNC machining, manufacturing, or a related field preferred



MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience operating manual and/or CNC machines, including mills and lathes; additional experience strongly preferred for senior-level consideration
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations and aerospace quality requirements preferred
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Demonstrates the ability to effectively adapt to frequent changes, delays, and unexpected events in a dynamic manufacturing environment. Maintains strong attention to detail while balancing multiple work assignments, with highly organized work habits and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Possesses a solid understanding of feeds and speeds for manual mill and lathe setup. Exhibits strong communication skills and proficiency with relevant software systems, including ERP/MRP platforms such as Made2Manage.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This role is performed in a manufacturing/shop setting with moderate to high noise levels typical of a production floor. Employees may work in close proximity to machinery and moving mechanical parts and are expected to follow all safety protocols and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

SHIFT: Full-Time; This position is expected to be 100% onsite.

SCHEDULE: Day Shift - Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., plus overtime as required.
