Job Summary

The Journeyman Plumber is responsible for installing, assembling, and repairing plumbing systems in commercial and industrial construction environments. This role works under the direction of a Leadman, Foreman, or Supervisor to complete layout, installation, testing, and troubleshooting of plumbing systems in accordance with plans, specifications, building codes, and safety standards. Systems may include domestic water, gas, sanitary waste & vent, storm drainage, and process piping.

Essential Duties

  • Interpret and work from specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and building plans to determine material needs, installation sequences, and required tools.
  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, tubs, urinals, water heaters, and water softeners.
  • Lay out pipe routes, mark locations, and prepare penetrations using rulers, levels, lasers, and related tools.
  • Cut openings in walls, floors, and ceilings to accommodate pipe and fittings.
  • Install sleeves, leaveouts, roof penetrations, and wall penetrations.
  • Excavate, backfill, and compact trenches using shovels, picks, and tampers.
  • Cut, ream, solder, braze, solvent weld, groove, and thread piping systems (copper, steel, PVC, CPVC, etc.).
  • Assemble and install valves, fittings, and piping made of various materials (steel, copper, brass, plastics, etc.).
  • Join pipe using mechanical, soldered, brazed, fused, and threaded methods.
  • Perform system testing (water, air, hydrostatic) and inspect gauges for leaks or performance issues.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to all company safety expectations-including proper PPE use, 6S principles, and PreTask Safety Planning.
  • Provide guidance to apprentices and less experienced team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Licenses / Certifications
  • Valid Texas Journeyman Plumber License (required).
Experience
  • 4+ years of plumbing experience in commercial or industrial construction.
  • Experience operating lifts and equipment such as scissor lifts, aerial lifts, and forklifts (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of plumbing codes, installation methods, and trade best practices.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and construction plans.
  • Proficient in safe use of hand tools, power tools, and pipejoining equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while supporting team productivity.
  • Strong problemsolving skills with the ability to resolve atypical or complex issues.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to support and mentor apprentices.
Working Conditions
  • Work performed on active construction job sites, indoors and outdoors.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, fumes, oils, and site hazards.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate respiratory and safety equipment and comply with all safety requirements.
