The Administrative Assistant is a member of the staff of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service (
NCCES). The County Administrative Assistant's primary responsibility is to provide support to the County Extension Director and other staff as assigned. The County Administrative Assistant cooperates with colleagues in the
NCCES and county leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibility and is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the
NCCES.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, NC Cooperative Extension Field Faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.
Harnett County is located on I-95, midway between New York and Florida. The county's southeastern border is seven miles from the crossroads of Interstate 95 and Interstate 40, connecting the eastern seaboard's north and south with east and west. NC 87, a major thoroughfare connecting Fayetteville/Fort Bragg to the Piedmont Triad region of NC, serves Harnett County in the west. North Carolina's capital city of
Raleigh and the
Research Triangle Park (RTP) are located just north of Harnett County and the vibrant and growing defense community of
Fort Bragg are just to the south. North Carolina's beautiful
Atlantic coast beaches and Outer Banks are two hours away and the
Blue Ridge mountains and scenic Blue Ridge Parkway are located just four hours west. |
| Other Work/Responsibilities |
The County Administrative Assistant position provides office support, under supervision, to the Extension staff and does related work as required to support educational programs in a variety of areas including data entry and office supply management.
Responsibilities include providing administrative support for the County Extension Director and other staff/program areas including Agriculture, Natural Resources, 4-H,
CRD, and Family and Consumer Sciences. Position interacts with other county departments (Human Resources, Finance, Budget, etc.) to ensure effective relationships with county government.
The County Administrative Assistant will work with the County Extension Director to develop and effectively manage the county budget.
The County Administrative Assistant serves as the face of extension, will provide a high level of customer service to call-in and walk-in clientele, and should have the ability to respond to a diverse clientele. This position will be responsible for assisting in developing and maintaining county budgets, maintaining grant funded budgets, managing certain Extension reports and communicating with Extension administration. |

Monday - Friday Business Hours 8:00 am to 5:00pm - Evenings and Weekends as Required. This is an in-person position. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role. |

Graduation from high school and two years of related experience; or graduation from a two-year secretarial science or business administration program and one year related experience |

Extensive knowledge of computer applications is required including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and must have a willingness to learn new relevant software programs as they become essential. Must be highly motivated and have strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. The County Administrative Assistant should possess strong written and oral communication skills. The County Administrative Assistant must be understanding of and have the ability to maintain confidentiality, especially as it relates to personnel issues. |
