Description

The Field Technician is responsible for performing jobs involving the service and repair of equipment, working both independently and on a team. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate, and repair include earth moving equipment, diesel engines, electric power generators, lift trucks, and allied products. Extensive on the job training, classroom instruction, and e-learning must be successfully completed to remain in the technician training program. The Field Technician will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner. The individual in this role will advance in classification as attitude, skill level, and job performance allows.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations



  • Plans and performs minor repairs using correct tools and procedures
  • Orders and return parts for assigned jobs in a timely manner
  • Performs the following tasks on basic components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassemble; perform minor adjustments
  • Performs Preventive Maintenance service according to factory guidelines
  • Demonstrates proper use of service information systems
  • Works in field service as experienced technician as required
  • Adheres to and follows all applicable and required safety standards and procedures
  • Works independently in the field as required


Qualifications

Education



  • High school diploma or the equivalent required.


Experience



  • A minimum of one (1) year's work experience involving mechanical repairs or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education is required.
  • Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills are required.


Skills & Competencies


  • Intermediate engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic, and repair skills
  • Written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills


Job Training



  • Area specific technical training
  • OSHA and MSHA required training
  • Vendor technical sites (Infocast, Liftnet, SIMSi, etc.)

  • Work is normally performed in a Service Department shop or on the location of customer job sites.
  • Exposure to physical risk and all-weather conditions is associated with this position.
  • Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time is often required.

  • Ability to safely reach, kneel, grasp, and stoop as needed.
  • Ability to safely list up to 75lbs.
  • Ability to safely climb on ladders, climb on equipment, and climb under equipment as needed.
