RN with IDD population experience mandatory, case load of 10 adults who are IDD Group Home residents. Three days a week onsite visits in DC, two days a week onsite at Silver Spring, MD office with shared space, Temp to Hire position direct placement available after 600 hours as a contract employee
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care, health support, and training services to individuals residing in a supported living environment. Services are delivered in accordance with individual service plans, approved medical standards, and guidelines established by applicable Departments of Health and regulatory bodies.
The RN ensures continuity of care, proper implementation of medical services, and compliance with documentation and District health regulations to meet the needs of persons supported.
Key Responsibilities
Person-Supported Care
  • Review and coordinate schedules for medical, dental, and health appointments, ensuring transportation and staff support in collaboration with assigned QIDP.
  • Arrange and confirm future medical appointments based on individual needs and internal procedures.
  • Administer medications, including PRN medications, per physician orders and individual service plans; document all administrations accurately.
  • Monitor and document health incidents, including reviewing first aid logs and maintaining detailed records in charts and reports.
  • Deliver health support services based on individualized program plans using best nursing practices.
  • Provide supplemental nutrition per physician orders and document accordingly.
  • Monitor and document physical and mental health status, including responses to treatments and medications.
  • Ensure communication with physicians, families/guardians, and interdisciplinary teams regarding changes in condition.
Clinical & Medical Duties
  • Administer medications via oral, intramuscular, or other prescribed routes following physician orders.
  • Transcribe and review physician orders for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and document findings, recommendations, and orders.
  • Schedule and coordinate laboratory work and diagnostic testing.
  • Order and manage medications through pharmacy coordination.
  • Administer treatments and specialized procedures, documenting responses and outcomes.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in medical charts, medication records, and incident reports.
  • Review medication administration records for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure all documentation meets organizational, District, and Federal guidelines.
  • Record and report incidents involving individuals, staff, or visitors per established procedures.
  • Track and document individual whereabouts when offsite, including medication accountability and sign-out procedures.
Training & Support
  • Train direct support staff and QIDPs on health service delivery, individualized care techniques, and best practices.
  • Provide guidance to ensure proper implementation of health-related services and interventions.
  • Communicate daily health updates and census changes to staff through reports and shift documentation.
General Duties
  • Monitor individuals for changes in health status and respond appropriately.
  • Notify appropriate parties of any significant or acute health changes.
  • Perform routine nursing assessments and maintain continuity of care.
  • Complete required paperwork and ensure compliance with all procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support daily operations.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in applicable jurisdiction DC mandatory MD preferred
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of nursing practices, health service delivery, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and documentation standards.
  • Knowledge of individualized care planning and interventions.
  • Ability to train and support staff effectively.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
Work Environment
  • Residential or supported living setting serving individuals with specialized needs.
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, QIDPs, and direct support staff.
