POSITION SUMMARY: The Packaging Engineer I will assist in the development of MSD Consumable and Instrument Packaging. This position will participate in projects that include determining requirements and specifications, design of packaging, design of molds/packaging manufacturing, configuration, and integration into MSD manufacturing and inventory systems. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Collaborate with process engineers, product owners, and other engineers to design packaging solutions for use with MSD's products and manufacturing automation. * Participate in the development of process and packaging design requirements and specifications * Analyze simple data and draw initial conclusions and recommendations based on analysis. Present these findings to relevant parties. * Participate in the development and execution of packaging design verification and validation test plans * Participate in the develop and implementation of packaging test plans * Generate and implement change orders to promote product design and process improvements * Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field required * Experience in scientific or medical packaging strongly preferred including various manufacturing methods such as injection molding, thermoforming, cardboard box engineering in a project driven environment preferred * Experience in and ISO cGMP environment preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Basic knowledge of Injection Molding, Mold Design, Thermoforming, and Cardboard Box Design * Basic knowledge of analytical techniques, experimental design and statistical analysis * Excellent analytical and problem solving skills * Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage processes through to completion and coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints * Demonstrated propensity to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned accountabilities. * Basic understanding of ISO and/or FDA cGMP standards and their documentation requirements preferred * Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of project status o Excellent documentation skills, technical writing and presentation skills * Demonstrated propensity to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned accountabilities. * Good organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple and often changing priorities and issues of varying complexity, while meeting time-sensitive deadlines and deliverables. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office. WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position is performed on-site in manufacturing, and engineering office environments. COMPENSATION SUMMARY: The annual base salary for this position ranges from $59,100 to $87,900. This salary range represents a general guideline as MSD considers other factors when presenting an offer of employment, such as scope and responsibilities of the position, external market factors, and the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience. Employees may qualify for a discretionary or non-discretionary bonus in addition to their base salary. These annual bonuses are intended to recognize individual performance and enable employees to benefit from the Company's overall success.
