Transport Network Engineer

Segra is searching for a qualified and experienced Transport Network Engineer to join us in a full-time capacity.



Location Requirement:


This work arrangement for this role is a hybrid position, requiring three (3) days in the office, with flexibility to work remotely two (2) days each week. This can be in any Segra office.



Role Overview:


This position must have knowledge of SONET ring transport designs, Knowledge of DWDM transport designs, complete design and implementation of all system components (e.g., Ciena, Cisco, & Fujitsu SONET rings, Ciena, Nokia, Adva, or Cisco DWDM (Flex and Fix Grid) backbones, and Nokia, Ciena, & Cisco Carrier Ethernet systems deployments). Create engineering projects and maintain equipment and circuit inventory. This position is part of the Engineering team.



Required Qualifications:



  • Must have associate degree and a minimum of 3 years of networking experience or no degree with a minimum of 5 years of networking experience (networking experience includes areas such as support, engineering, provisioning, etc.).
  • Must have experience using DWDM in some capacity.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Optical Network Certification is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NetCracker is also desirable.
  • Work with minimum supervision, work with the Network Planning team to ensure transport capacity for future network growth.
  • Understanding of fiber optic principles as it relates to MMF (multi-mode fiber) and SMF (single-mode fiber) media types
  • Understanding of SONET protection schemes for service mappings
  • Understanding of DWDM passive and active ROADM architectures
  • Understanding of TDM, OTN, and Ethernet protocols
  • Experience with DS0, T1, T3, OC-x, Ethernet, & OTN BER testing
  • Experience in designing and implementing projects
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills to interact successfully with customers, management and team members, and proficiency with the use of personal computers to include Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be detail oriented with good organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task effectively and demonstrate the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize as needed in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Ability to adjust work schedule to support shifts of various lengths and start/stop times based on workload, & other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $64,050 - $88,000
