Position Summary

The Machinist Sr. is responsible for producing precision components by setting up and operating a variety of machines in support of manufacturing requirements. This role applies advanced machining knowledge to meet quality, safety, delivery, and productivity expectations while following established procedures and engineering specifications. The role additionally involves maintaining safe, effective, and efficient work practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Properly set-up and operate machining equipment unaccompanied to produce parts that meet drawings and quality requirements.

  • Understand blueprints, routings, work instructions, and specifications (including GD&T).

  • Select, install, and adjust tooling, work-holding, and fixtures to achieve required tolerances.

  • Perform inspections using appropriate gaging; document results as required.

  • Maintain product quality by following control plans, inspection plans, and nonconformance procedures.

  • Follow all safety and environmental requirements, including proper PPE use and lockout/tagout.

  • Complete preventative maintenance like adding coolant, replacing filter paper, and cleaning equipment. Must maintain and clean the work area.

  • Collaborate effectively with team members and support the team by identifying opportunities to reduce scrap, rework, cycle time, and setup time. Implement identified changes and verify improvements.

Required to work with the following machines and equipment

  • Machines
    • Grinders (OD, ID, profile, surface), CNC lathes, wire EDMs, broaches, manual equipment.
      • Determine federate, spindle speeds, and depth of cut.
  • Tooling & Work-holding
    • Fixtures, arbors, vises, chucks, carriers, collets, and clamping systems.
  • Inspection & Measurement (Less than .0005" tolerances)
    • Micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, bore gauges, surface finish comparators, and other precision measurement devices.
  • Materials & Handling
    • Handling of raw stock, semi-finished, and finished components; use of hoists, carts, or lifts.
    • Deburring of components and features being produced.
  • Computer Systems
    • Completion of required shop paperwork and/or electronic records (e.g., job travelers, inspection records, time reporting).

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3+ years of related manufacturing experience.
  • High-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Understands blueprints, industry specifications, dimensions, characteristics, and verbal instructions.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computers, software, and CNC controls.
  • Ability to maintain focus, pace, and accuracy in a production environment.
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot machining and quality issues.
  • Ability to perform work requiring precision, judgment, and sustained attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and coordination with cross-functional team members.
  • Ability to follow safety policies, quality requirements, and standard operating procedures.
  • In regular attendance.
  • Physical Demands
    • Standing and walking for extended periods.
    • Frequent bending, reaching, grasping, and fine motor manipulation.
    • Routine lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs as needed (with assistance or mechanical aid when appropriate).
    • Ability to safely work around moving machinery, cutting tools, chemicals, and debris; PPE required.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • Pay Range: $26.6/hr to $40.15/hr
