Here's what you'd do:
The Body Prep Technician is responsible for preparing rail vehicle bodies and components for liquid paint application. This role includes performing body filling, sanding, surface preparation, masking, and ensuring all surfaces meet quality standards prior to painting. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail and experience working with industrial coatings or transportation equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Surface Preparation
  • Perform body filling, smoothing, and shaping using appropriate fillers and materials.
  • Sand, grind, and feather-edge surfaces to achieve required smoothness and contour.
  • Clean, degrease, and prepare metal and composite surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
  • Inspect surfaces for defects, corrosion, or imperfections and correct them prior to paint.
Pre Paint Preparation
  • Mask, cover, or remove components as needed to protect non painted areas.
  • Ensure all work areas, tools, and materials meet cleanliness and readiness standards before painting begins.
Quality & Compliance
  • Follow all technical specifications, work instructions, and quality standards for rail vehicle finishing.
  • Conduct visual and tactile inspections to verify surface preparation quality.
  • Document work performed and communicate defects or discrepancies to supervisors.
Tools & Equipment
  • Use sanding blocks, grinders, DA sanders, and other bodywork tools safely and effectively.
  • Mix and apply body filler, putty, and compounds according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Maintain equipment and report any issues or maintenance needs.
Safety
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including PPE requirements, ventilation practices, and materials handling guidelines.
  • Follow OSHA, environmental, and company safety policies.
  • Participate in safety training and contribute to a clean, organized work environment.
Here's what you'll get:
  • Pay: $18.25/hour to start, with an opportunity to increase to $22/hour upon passing the company-provided training and certification
  • Hours: M-F, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM

Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Trade school diploma in a painting-related field
  • Experience in industrial, rail, or automotive paint prep with large parts (sanding, masking, body filler, etc.)
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Certification in industrial coatings or auto body repair is a plus.
Additional Information:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Required bending, kneeling, walking, and standing for long periods of time
  • Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to obtain a respirator certification through the company
  • Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check and a drug screen
