Description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Human Resources Business Parter (HRBP) to join our team! The HRBP will serve as a strategic advisor and primary HR liaison for assigned lines of business. This role provides expert consultation on a wide range of human resources matters, including organizational design, compensation, employee relations, talent development, and compliance. The HRBP ensures that all employment practices align with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Act as the primary Human Resources professional for designated business units, participating in leadership forums (e.g., Commercial, Consumer, Mortgage, Private Wealth) and contributing to strategic planning and execution.
  • Provide guidance on employment actions such as promotions, transfers, compensation adjustments, and organizational changes, ensuring compliance with employment law and internal policy.
  • Support the annual review cycle with oral and written feedback on employee performance evaluations prior to delivery.
  • Support leaders in coaching conversations, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement planning.
  • Conduct thorough investigations (in partnership with Employee Case Manager) into employee relations matters, ensuring fair and consistent resolution in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Advocate for ongoing learning and development of all employees. Facilitate, and deliver HR programs and training sessions for pertinent changes and ongoing learning opportunities. (ie: MBTI-Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Ascend Leadership program, Cohort Leadership Coaching)
  • Actively serve as a change agent with other HR partners for engagement of employees and other initiatives.

    • Facilitate talent calibration sessions to support succession planning and leadership development initiatives.
    • Manage and maintain job descriptions, including drafting new roles, reviewing existing descriptions, and conducting FLSA exemption testing. Advise managers on job classification and evaluation.
    • Support HR integration efforts during mergers and acquisitions, ensuring alignment of people, processes, and organizational culture.




To be successful in this position, we require the following:



  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of human resources related management/business consulting experience.


The following would be a plus:



  • Relevant Master's degree
  • SHRM credentials- CP, or SCP
  • HRCI credentials PHR, or SPHR
