Description
The Director, Commercial Banking is responsible for building comprehensive financial relationships with existing and prospective clients through the active management of the commercial Relationship Managers (RMs), Portfolio Managers (PMs), and Treasury Services Specialists (TSSs), by combining a thorough knowledge of sales and marketing, credit underwriting and current economic trends along with personal experience to assist staff in recommending appropriate financial services that meet the needs of clients and elevates CCB to the status of trusted advisor. The Director, Commercial Banking guides staff presentations to obtain loan approval and is responsible for the overall risk of the commercial loan portfolio. Together with executive leadership, determines strategies to grow and manage the commercial line of business and represent CCB and CIS positively to external constituencies. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provide marketing and sales management to assist in generating new commercial loans, deposits and treasury services by elevating the bank to the status of trusted advisor.
- Manages the overall risk of the commercial loan portfolio, including assuring current loan grades are maintained, devises proper workout strategies where deemed necessary and assists in the review of all delinquent, monitored and sub-standard credits.
- Together with the President and Chief Credit Officer, screens new commercial loan opportunities, provides structuring and underwriting guidance, and approves commercial credit commitments prior to review by the Executive Loan Committee.
- Serves as a member of the Executive Loan Committee for review of all credit extensions above the board designated amount.
- Participates in establishing corporate financial goals, analyzing new products, and drafting operational reports to the Cass Board of Directors.
- Manages the commercial RMs, PMs, and TSS directly or through team leaders. As needed, joins RMs and PMs on client and prospect calls. Assures the use of all sales and marketing features of the CRM system (Salesforce).
- Together with the President and Director, Business Development, determines strategies to grow and manage the commercial line of business.
- Directs and maintains a high level of communications with staff by conducting regular meetings, providing frequent feedback, both positive and constructive, and performing annual performance reviews.
- Oversees the Treasury Services Group by reviewing, updating, and maintaining policies and procedures, determining staffing levels and system requirements, monitors activity for service quality issues and explores opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining a high level of client satisfaction.
- Maintains appropriate level of productive staff through hiring and adjusting staff as needed.
- Maintains and enforces commercial policies and procedures.

- Advanced knowledge of loan documentation.
- Ability to work independently with little to no level of guidance and oversight.
- Ability to travel as required.
MINIMUM LEVEL OF PREPARATION AND TRAINING NORMALLY REQUIRED:
- A technical level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of advanced studies or special developmental/educational executive programs in business administration, finance or related area or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years of progressively increasing responsible experience in management capacities within a financial institution preferably in commercial bank management, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management or leadership position.
