Plans and coordinates the daily work assignments of Vegetation Management crews and contractors. Ensures all activities follow applicable safety and environmental guidelines, operating procedures, and engineering specifications to support the safe, timely, and efficient installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of the electric distribution system and related equipment. Maintains strict compliance with all laws, regulations, company policies, and relevant industry standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Plan, estimate and coordinate daily and annual work activities related to Vegetation Management programs in accordance with applicable procedures and specifications without compromising safety or system integrity and reliability by using arboricultural expertise (evaluating tree conditions, determine appropriate work methods, etc.).
- Sequence and schedule work to meet operational, reliability, and customer commitments. Ensures timely and appropriate response of vegetation management emergency calls, and other reliability and customer service work, and completion of annual programs as required, in accordance with applicable company specifications and governmental regulations.
- Maintains a strong commitment to safety and quality by developing work plans that support safe execution, ensure procedural compliance, and align with realistic crew workloads.
- Utilize various tools including work management systems, project management software, and financial applications to plan, organize, and schedule the assignment of work to optimize productivity and meet departmental and company operating goals and priorities.
- Assists in the development, preparation and communication of forecasts, budgets and special studies.
- Monitors and evaluates the performance of vegetation work and assists in identifying resource needs and opportunities for more efficient work execution. Provides input into the organizations work management process and efficiency.
- Communicates and coordinates with Environmental Department regarding Environmental Restrictions and Wetland Restrictions.
- Promotes a customer service-oriented team between Chief Construction Inspectors, Engineering and/or contractors by aligning work priorities, resolving constraints, and adjusting plans based upon changing conditions and/or resource availability.
- Must be available to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis. Ensures proper response to emergencies and interfaces with the Distribution Control Center (DCC). May supply and direct resources during emergencies.
- Support Vegetation Management related reporting and auditing (PSC, BPU, NERC, etc.).
- Performs field checks and inspections as required or directed with a focus on project/site safety and efficient work practices.
- Provides assistance to the Manager and Section Manager as required and performs special projects and other related assignments as needed.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the engineering or operation/maintenance of electric system. or
- Associate's Degree and a minimum of 4 years overall experience, of which 3 years are in the engineering or operation/maintenance of the electric systems or
- High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 5 years overall experience, of which 3 years are in the engineering or operation/maintenance of the electric system.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in Environmental Science, Forestry, or other related field. and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the engineering or operation/maintenance of electric system.
- Associate's Degree preferably in Environmental Science, Forestry, or other related field and a minimum of 4 years of experience in the engineering or operation/maintenance of electric system.
Relevant Work Experience
- Must demonstrate computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and well as related Company systems, required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively work with all levels of management and union personnel, vendors and contractors. Must have the ability to direct the activities of a large group in an effective and harmonious manner, required.
- Must be able to balance priorities, handle multiple assignments and take decisive action, required.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to foster a team spirited work environment in support of the Companys Corporate Values and Mission, required.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies during off shifts, weekends and holidays as needed, required.
- Must be willing to work in any of the Electric operating areas, required.
- Familiarity with utility system design and construction, required.
- Working knowledge of Company operations and policies, preferred.
- Minimum of three years of supervisory experience, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able and willing to travel, as needed.
- Must be able to work in field locations.
